Australia - Is this really what you think of us?
I think the old joke goes something like this:

Why are there no Lions or Tigers in Australia?
Because the spiders ate them all.

But Australia gave us Farscape, so they have my eternal thanks.

And Haikus confused.
I would not be surprised if these snake skin stories are more mischievous than natural occurrences, especially the boa constrictor skin in outer Sydney.

There seems to be a lot of oddities spotted these days, that you have to wonder whether someone has these snakes in captivity and is playing games with the public.

Too many fires. : (

According to a veteran firefighter, writing in the newspapers this week, both California and Australia have seen quite a surge in fires in the past few years, to levels not seen before. Anecdotally that seems to be true.

But the cause of it remains a mystery. Greenies blame inaction on climate change, conservatives blame greenies for encouraging fuel buildup, and conspiracy theorists blame Chinese/Russian agents.
