Alan lake in the mind of mr soames

One Spare Part
Seen local lad (to me) Alan Lake in a few things during lockdown including Villains (you must watch it) & Slade in Flame. In the 1st, he played a really nasty type (how unusual !) and in the 2nd he played a lovable rogue singer - but the band in the extras describe him as being very good to THEM, they liked him but witnessed the scary side of his nature. There is a curious dichotomy to him, the original crazy mixed up kid.

Yes, even in his straighter roles (Juliet Bravo?) there was always something in the eyes. A dangerous quality, like you were never sure what he would do.

I watched Quatermass (the 1979 version) yesterday on Talking Pictures and two B7 locations cropped up. Firstly Fulham Gasworks aka Centero base in S-L-D and then the abandoned Wembley Exhibition Halls used in Deathwatch where Tarrant's brother fights Vinni.

In the Dept S episode The Bones of Byrom Blaine..Davyd Harries (Doran from Moloch) and Ben Howard (Mori from Volcano).
Also in the episode The Perfect Operation, Ronald Leigh-Hunt turned up. Didn't say much, but he was wearing the exact same head bandage as William Franklyn wore in the Champions episode The Gunrunners...so yet another entrant for the silly looking head covering..but Travis 2 from VFTP is still in the lead!

The B7 episodes on YouTube have subtitles which are essential to understand Shivan's utterings in Voice from the Past.

This morning on Talking Pictures...the film The Christmas Tree (1966) with both Brian Blessed and Alan lake!!!
Mr Blessed played a policeman and I so wanted him to say 'Z Victor 1, over and out!!' But he did have great fun...having a fight with the baddies in a muddy field...all 4 actors were caked in the stuff and I'm sure they were all grinning from ear to ear Grin

In the last episode of Dept S, Soup of the Day,..Pippa Steel and Ronald Lacey (excellent as always) along with Anthony Valentine AND Patrick Mower.
The whole episode was packed with so may actors who appeared in everything during the 60s.
But I still find The Champions a far better show.
Maybe its because Dept S was shot at the same time as Randall and Hopkirk (to save money according to the programme booklet in the box set).
At least Mr Wyngarde helped them in that department, money saving that is, by wearing mostly his own clothes and letting them use his own beautiful red Bentley. I wonder where that is now?
