A new group for B7 Fanfiction on FB

I'm likewise not on FB, and very grateful to rojroj for keeping us updated here.

I'm currently reading a novel-length print zine (acquired from the Horizon table during Cygnus Alpha) - Fragments from a Shattered Life by Cath Knowles. It's nice to have a physical zine - A4 size, doesn't need batteries Wink

This is an excellent, well-written story, looking in depth at Psychostrategists. (What if Vila was a Puppeteer...?)

I loved it, and she started a new one which was also great. Is she a new author? So happy to see her joining the fandom and writing great new stuff.

Also I meant for some time to thank you for the updates in this thread: I learned about many great authors and fics here. I can't join the FB group as FB doesn't allow fandom profiles and I prefer to keep fandom profile separated from RL one, but the updates here are the next best thing!

Hi, thanks for the comment and apologies I took so long to reply. It seems I forgot to click on the "notify" option -- so I didn't even realize there were new comments on this thread!

Yes, Sarah Francis is a new author. I'm enjoying her new story (still in progress), too! It pleases me to think that our FB group has contributed at least a little to encouraging her to write.

Thanks very much for your support!

And I'm grateful that you're still following this thread :)

Vila as a puppeteer sounds very intriguing -- enjoy the novel! Agreed that reading printed zines is so much better than reading online. Also, printed zines had editors, which implied some degree of supervision, whereas now people just post whatever...

Sorry I took so long to reply!

Here's what's new in our group for B7 fanfiction.

The following stories were reviewed and discussed:

CON by Clocketpatch: some twenty years after the events on Gauda Prime, a man comes to talk with Vila, claiming that he is Blake. The trouble is, he's not the only one.
https://archiveof...ks/1097875

NEEDS OF THE FEW by Natasha: "This was the first story I posted to AO3 (in 2011). The Liberator crew hold an important hostage, whom they plan to exchange for a group of political prisoners. During the mission, Blake starts having nightmares and a suppressed memory comes to the surface."
https://archiveof...rks/217970

PRIME SUSPECT by Nova: Bedbound on Gauda Prime, Blake turns detective and solves his own attempted murder. (This one has some adult content.)
https://archiveof...ks/4830824

There is a new fanfic challenge on Horizon -- the prompt word is "King":
http://www.blakes...ad_id=2715

And a new fanfic challenge on b7friday: "Familiar"
https://b7friday....53613.html

Charlie Mentoe posted a great number of images of the front covers of old printed zines (but you will only be able to see them if you are on FB):
https://www.faceb...2106104239

And, here's a link to transcripts of B7 episodes, which some members say they find useful, especially when they have difficulties with presenting characters and the way they speak:

Update on B7 Fanfiction group

Since 21 Dec was Gauda Prime Day, we discussed Post-Gauda Prime stories. A great example is DUPE by Willa Shakespeare -- a PGP story with a believable happy ending and an original explanation on how Blake survived.
https://archiveof...rks/668235

After that, two humorous stories were posted and reviewed, both related to the holiday season:

NEW YEARS' RESOLUTIONS... NOT? by Sally M: a humorous story about the promises our heroes make every year.
https://archiveof...works/9712

THE BATTLE OF THETA DELTIRI 6 by Sara Lopez: "My contribution to the Horizon Advent Calendar."
https://archiveof...s/17130032

Ian Tushy Rushworth posted the fourth chapter of his PGP story "Resurrection" (which I cannot share here because it was posted directly to the group). It includes some crossover elements with Dr Who.

Yes, I thought the interaction between Avon and Vila in that story was great, too.

Also, the description of Blake's "consciousness raising" sessions :)

You're right about warmth and a great sense of humour in her stories. I also like the fact that Nico's Vila is clever. There are many writers who get Vila's sense of humour more or less right (for instance, he has some good one-liners in the Big Finish novel Uprising which I'm reading atm). But not everbody manages to make it clear that Vila is also quite intelligent behind his all his layers of disguise :)

Agreed both on Nico & on writing Vila. One of the BF all cast audios has an incredibly stupid 'funny' bit with Vila and five fingers/four fingers and a thumb. As someone with a definite sense of humour, Vila would've heard them all before and identified a 'standard' before you'd barely started telling it.
