Guest actors for B7 fan-fiction (Gen)
thewayback7
I'm mulling lots of fanfic stories in my head, and one idea I have is to use 70s vintage actors (from non-B7 series) as guest actors in my stories.

The point being: it's easier to create a new character if you know how they look and speak. And I can also create photoshopped images to illustrate the story.

So, my questions are:

A - Are there any actors you think would have made good guest actors on B7?

B - Are there any 70s-ish series (British) that you recommend I trawl looking for potential actors to use?

e.g. Survivors, Children of the Stones, etc.

C - Do you know any websites that feature vintage British actors e.g. https://archivetv...

I'm in Australia so I don't recall many 70s Brit shows, apart from comedies.

My guest characters tend to be rebels in the mould of Avalon, Sarkoff & Tyce, Kasabi & Veron, etc.

Thanks.

EDIT: My fan-fiction is GEN rated, so keep it clean please.

Interesting questions!

I'd recommend trawling through The Onedin Line (1972-80). Very much of the same era as B7, and indeed shared many of the same directors, writers and a few of the actors (Jenny Twigge, Donald Douglas, Leslie Schofield, Barry Jackson...). I always thought the lead actor, Peter Gilmore, would have made a good Doctor back in the day.

I'm not sure how true this is, but the One Din Line was filmed, on location, at Charlestown down in Cornwall...but the series is actually set in Liverpool...which is why there are lots of 'Cornish' accents about in the interior sets and scenes!!! I suppose someone forgot to explain this to the actors over their Cornish Cream teas! Grin

Bob Hoskins as Vila's much tougher brother.
Jeremy Brett as Avon's brother.

Thanks for the tip. I've watched the first 3 episodes, very strong characters and good acting. And strange bedfellows trapped together on a ship, is a familiar theme.

If I can find/make some pictures without their period garb, I can definitely make some rebels out of them, or even snobby Federation officers. I'm not familiar with Dr Who but Peter Gilmore does look like a good Doctor candidate. Cheers!

Interesting. I could definitely make a character out of Jeremy Brett, he could play anything from Avon's brother, to a rebel, or even a Federation foil/nemesis for Avon. Bob Hoskins might be harder. Thanks.

Richard O'Brien as one of Avon's "acquaintances". Enough said. Smile

Too much said.

This thread was asking for guest actors to use in my B7 fan-fiction, which is Gen rated. Apparently I should have made that clearer, so I have amended the title of this thread to reflect that.

I've always thought Philip Madoc would have made a great guest star.

Bob Peck would make a good space-weary Federation trooper / officer. Anyone who has seen "An Ungentlemanly Act" about the Falklands war will know that side of his acting. Especially those final moments at the end before he looks up to see the flag waving in the wind.

He was also the main character in the excellent series "Edge of Darkness" where he had one of the Travis's playing against him (Brian Croucher.) Gan (David Jackson) was also in that series - a treasure trove for some of us. :-)

Joe Dredd
I'd love to see Alfred Burke (mainly known for his role in "Public Eye") play a part. Also the recently-departed John Stride, star of "The Main Chance", and ditto his secretary (played by Anna Palk) could play a Tyce-ish character. Richard Morant (Flashman in the 1970s "Tom Brown's Schooldays") would make an excellent villainous Federation officer, which leads me on to the original version of "Poldark"; Ralph Bates is a revelation in this if you've only ever seen him in shows like "Dear John". Lastly (for now), I loved the character of Dot Walmington in the first series of "Hazell" so lets have Barbara Young in there as well.

One Spare Part
How about Nicholas Young of The Tomorrow People - original uk version? He could play good or bad equally well.
"We're in the centre of a mystical convergence here."

One Spare Part
Barbara Kellerman of Quatermass (John Mills) and Queen of Narnia fame - for the same reason as above. I like actors that can keep you wondering if they are good or bad.

How about John Carson?
He was in Mr D's Hammer House of Horror episode and Dombey and Son.
I loved him in the Champions (Gilded Cage).
He also turned up in Adam Adamant.
But I've also seen him in several episodes of the Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre.
He has a lovely voice which can be quite charming...but also very threatening.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. It will take me a while to look all of them up. Cheers!

Yes, he has a strong voice and character. Perhaps leading a planet defending itself against the Federation. Thanks.

I found an episode of Edge Of Darkness. Yes, he would make a weary Federation officer, perhaps one with divided loyalties who could be coaxed into betraying the Federation and siding with the rebels. I could see him as a rebel leader too, he looks versatile and capable. Thanks.

What sort of role would Alfred play? I'm watching an episode of Public Eye and I'm getting a shrewd independent vibe from him. I can't see him idealistic enough to play a rebel, nor cruel enough to be a mean Federation officer.

Maybe he could have a roving intelligence / counter-intelligence role for the resistance movement. Maybe a rebel equivalent of a psychostrategist. A rebel equivalent of Carnell, serving alongside Avalon in her "dozen" resistance movements?

Alfred Burke turned up in an episode of the Human Jungle the other evening on Talking Pictures. It dated from 1963 (when a certain Mr John Barry hadn't been introduced to the James Bond Movies!)
Mr Burke was excellent. I think he has also been in another film on Talking Pictures, possibly Edgar Wallace...and he could have made an excellent guest in B7.

Good one. You're right, I could see him on either side, rebel or Federation. Or even an alien with telepathy. He has aged well too, so he could play someone old or young. Thanks.
