Forever Avon - Call for Contributors!

Paul Darrow. A true talent, who brought about an all encompassing moral 'greyness' to the magnetic rogue we all came to know as Avon.... at a time when TV characters were simply black or white (ie. good or evil). Look at the BSG characters that were contemporary to the B7 crew. They were all so very one dimensional, so traditional that they seem almost poisonously cheesy now Wink
In point of fact; it really took until the re-imagined BSG before the rest of Sci-Fi telly finally managed to display all those sublimely sneaky, complex, 'grey' personality traits and actions that we viewers discovered we love so very much.
Paul, the cast, crew and writers blazed a trail, with (seemingly) little more than a budget of a fiver per episode to make all of the unexpected happen.
A magic time in my childhood, which gifted me both ideas and ideals that (politically and technologically) still deeply resonate with me.... even today Frown

P.s. I nearly fell over when I saw Paul on 'Pointless' with Michael, as I hadn't heard about his awful aneurysm and its devastating results. And then it wasn't too long before I read of his passing in one of the British online 'rag' tabloids. The only heartening thing was the plethora of comments from folks whose life Paul had (knowingly and unknowingly) touched.
To sum up?......Perhaps in an era of 20 second showbiz marriages, Paul stood out (yet again) with 50 years of sharing and caring with his beloved Janet.... RIP

You have three excellent artists on this site:Rainez, Lurena and Hugbot: while the former two depict the cast realistically, Hugbot draws adorable troll versions of the characters. A direct message to each might be a good idea.

OooH! Thank you for the heads-up, Ann! I missed this post. Shock

*PROJECT UPDATE*

Inspired by the the excellent 'Doctor Who: Target Storybook' I am now looking for artists aswell as writers to contribute to the project.

Much like the 'Storybook' my idea is for each short story to be accompanied by a signular, full page peice of artwork that either represents a iconic scene/moment in the story or the story as a whole.

If you are interested in contributing artwork then please PM me on here, DO NOT contact me through the email address above unless you have already done so in the past because I will not respond to it.

I pm-ed you. Wink

UPDATE: I have decided to extend the deadline for written submissions to late March and art submissions for late May so if you're yet to or are thinking about contributing then now's the perfect opportunity to declare your interest. I'm now actively searching for stories involving Avon with Gan, Tarrant, Dayna, Soolin and/or Servalan so if you have any ideas involving one or more of those particular characters then I would love to hear them!

I love the story of Paul doing an audio reading of Rebecca's World just to make Terry Nation's daughter happy. It sums up what a gentleman he was.

You don't know what a blessed relief it is to read this KentishSpaceRat! So much for a relaxing couple of Summer months here in Australia. Been up to my ears in work inside (not that outside has been much fun what with fires, smoke, devastating hail storms...). Means I can actually take a week to work on it solidly. From the contributors already it's going to be FAB!

After careful consideration regarding the current Covid-19 crisis I have made the very difficult decision of postponing the release of 'Forever Avon: Unofficial Short-Story Anthology' (originally Wednesday 3rd June) to Monday 28th September 2020. Therefore deadlines for written submissions and artwork will be extended to Friday 31st July 2020.

This decision has been made purely in consideration of existing contributors, a majority of which - including myself - who are in the high risk category of contracting the virus and will therefore have other priorities in the next few weeks/months besides their continued dedication to the project.

There are many more announcements still to be made in the coming weeks, aswell as an exclusive or two to help tide over the wait but until then, stay safe and continue to be kind to one another.

I hope you enjoyed having a 'voice' read out your story (excerpt).

I wonder if Ollie intends to make an audio book of the whole thing. That would be fun!

I wish I could say that was the plan but for now it was just that one story for a very special occasion, besides I'd need to complete the print version first! haha.

But never say never, in the words of Big Finish Productions, "Just imagine!" Wink

It was AMAZING, and I was so excited, I was bouncing like Tigger all over the place. Fortunately the place happened to be our local golf course - closed for coronavirus at the moment, but a wonderful wide open space for long solitary walks - and no witnesses!
