Red Dwarf rewatch 8.8 and Back To Earth, Part 1
trevor travis
This is better from the off - a finale that involves the whole cast!

trevor travis
I love as soon as Rimmer says the formula everyone knows it as well - even the Cat!

trevor travis
Rimmer's "I see no ships!". Bye, bye Dennis The Doughnut Boy!

trevor travis
I much prefer that version.

Yes, and they extended Pete into a two-parter instead.

Although odd they run out of money but made two endings...

It doesn't mention where Doug found the money from, but my script book says that Doug Naylor and Ed Bye played the episode to a test audience, and to their children, and they all hated the cliffhanger ending that seemed to kill Rimmer. So they reshot it.
Avon: "Not enough! Not nearly enough! Dammit, what weighs seventy kilos?"
Orac: "Vila weighs seventy-three kilos, Avon."
Avon: "Vila, are you here? I need your help."

Yeah, but they could have just added him kicking Death in the bollocks, they didn't need to change the rest of it as well and not have Lister at all in the last 7 or 8 minutes Shock

Or rather, nine years later in the lives of Rimmer, Lister and co...

Not in this.

I first saw this as the death knell of Red Dwarf, now I see it as giving the show new life...

They did find a whole new life on Dave.

I love the fact Lister is still trying to wind up Rimmer all these years later, but Rimmer has now cottoned on, but Lister does it anyway!

ClareGC
It does look different.

I'm happy that Kryten got to take a holiday and went travelling. Though sad that his imagination only stretches as far as a broom cupboard.

The sneezing-on-the-ironing scene is disgusting! LOL
Avon: "Not enough! Not nearly enough! Dammit, what weighs seventy kilos?"
Orac: "Vila weighs seventy-three kilos, Avon."
Avon: "Vila, are you here? I need your help."

JustBrad
I actually worked with someone who reminds me of Rimmer. He was soooooo methodical.

And thank goodness we've junked all the Rimmer contunity and just gone back to him being a hologram.

That's what makes me laugh so happily watching the scene.
Avon: "Not enough! Not nearly enough! Dammit, what weighs seventy kilos?"
Orac: "Vila weighs seventy-three kilos, Avon."
Avon: "Vila, are you here? I need your help."

trevor travis
Lots of pathos in here. Lister is older and he's lost Kochanski.
