Jan Chappell Performing with The Telling

B7 Cast and Crew
Jan Chappell Performing with The Telling

Jan Chappell is the narrator in two musical performances by The Telling.

Into the Melting Pot: Music and storytelling inspired by the women of medieval Spain.
July 1492: the deadline for the expulsion of the Jews is days away. At twilight a Jewish woman lights the lamps and starts up her spinning wheel. It is her last night in Seville. She tunes into voices of a community of Jewish, Christian and Muslim women from across the Spanish peninsula. Down the centuries, women’s stories of integration and of love, of history and its accompanying racial intolerance have been played out to a soundtrack of plaintive Sephardic songs and historical Cantigas and instrumentals. Into the Melting Pot recreates that poignant tradition.
Performances on Sunday 20th May at The Omnibus Theatre, 1 Clapham Common North Side, London SW4 0QW, and Sunday 24th June at the Stroud Green Music Festival, Holy Trinity Church Hall, Stapleton Hall Road, London N4 4QA.

Vision: The Imagined Testimony of Hildegard of Bingen.
Jan Chappell plays Hildegard, the German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, Christian mystic and visionary in this musical performance by The Telling. Vision aims to give an insight into the painful and visceral visionary experiences Hildegard suffered throughout her life. It is 'an imagined testimony', as Hildegard lies on her deathbed, revisiting and re-experiencing meaningful episodes from her past. Blurring the boundaries of drama/concert, this event explores the extraordinary life of Hildegard of Bingen, alongside her haunting and distinctive chant.
The performance takes place on Friday 8th June at the Stroud Green Music Festival, Holy Trinity Church Hall, Stapleton Hall Road, London N4 4QA.
