45th Anniversary rewatch - D8 Games

Alpha Grade Posts: 2762 Joined: 16.01.22	The episode: Derek Eight – Games (Carry On Up The Quarry Yet Again) The date: Tuesday, November 21st, 2023 The time: 7.45pm UK time A reminder of the Season Derek drinking game, with one special addition for this episode: Here’s the number of sips/swigs per each of these: Avon is knocked unconscious 1 A scientist dies (per scientist) 5 A member of the main cast wears the same costume as last week (per costume) 2 There’s the sequence (or part of the sequence) of Scorpio landing / taking off at Xenon Base 3 Vila drinks something red (per scene) 10 Tarrant falls in love 5 Soolin shoots someone (per person) 5 Slave says “sorry” (each mention) 1 Each mention of “Sleer” 2 Avon laughs manically and/or smiles inappropriately 5 There’s a downbeat ending in sharp contrast to the jangly end theme 10 The final shot of the episode includes Paul Darrow 3 A member of the main cast is killed or stunned (per cast member) 1 bottle of wine / 1 can of beer Someone is killed with a Mecronian knife 3 Back to the episode, and the crew go on a location visit to Winspit Quarry, only to find Servie is doing exactly the same thing. Meanwhile, Vila gets trod on and mounts a one-man rescue; Soolin is able to outshoot a quicker version of herself; Tarrant again proves that he can’t land a ship; and Orac starts an affair with one of Gambit's circuit boards. Episode in a word: Games (yup, another episode which does exactly what it says on the tin). Character to cheer: Vila, who proves to be a rather good one-man back-up squad. Characters to boo: Tarrant and Dayna for walking into a very obvious trap – just as well Vila is around to save them (see above). Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes. Recognisable Face: Stratford Johns (Belkov) had a wide-ranging CV. He was famous for being in Z Cars, while he also appeared in the 1982 Doctor Who serial “Four To Doomsday”. Best exchange: TARRANT: “Why should this middle-aged Federation professor want to help you, Avon?” AVON: “Because apart from being a brilliant geologist and an expert in mining techniques, he is also greedy, avaricious, and a crook.” VILA: “Has he got any faults?” Blake's 7 will return in “Carry On Getting Sand In Your Pants”.
