Pity that Zil got lost. She would have been a nice addition to the Liberator crew. An alien is never useless.

Why are the eggs bigger than a full grown Zil? TT, please explain later.

I don't Zil dies as such. She dies and is re-born over and over again.

In the context of computers, "PAR" usually refers to a PARity file (.par or .par2), a type of file used to repair or verify the integrity of other files.

No, serious, I take it Zil is telepathic and so brings her thoughts over. Blake is only imagining that he sees Zil's mouth moving. (it is moving, but only as reflex)

They transmit this ability genetically to their offspring, just as birds inherit the ability to fly.

I'll explain now! It's mentioned later on in Hostage that it's broken. And to compound his misery, Avon has found the Feds have developed something similar. Hence his comment: "I was rather hoping to sell them the idea."
Vote Og.

Zil’s lessons cured Blake’s despair, and he puts on his bracelet.

It's interesting to see a federation officer having morals when all we have seen of the Feds is corrupt and self serving.

This is The Federation Broadcasting Corporation. We have reestablished a link with our newsroom on Fedsat 1. We return you now to our roving reporter Lee R. Pantsonfire. Take it away, Lee.

This is Lee R Pantsonfire live at Fedsat 1. Details are sketchy, but it appears the infamous terrorist Blake launched a daring hit and run attack on Fedsat 1 that has left several officials dead. From my vantage point just OUTSIDE the courtroom, I did see Space Commander Travis running from the scene just as the blast doors were sealed. Travis engaged in a brief and violent encounter with a brave Federation trooper before running towards the docks and the Supreme Commander's office. Details are not available at this time, but it appears that casualties are high, and still rising.

Travis knew, right from the beginning. It really is a pity he's got to die. He's so much better than anything I've got left.

That does not mean he's clever. Just that they're even less useful to her.
