Avon might run, eh? I would, if I had to put up with leadership like Blake's. Fantastic spaceships and world-beating computers aren't everything you know. There's more where they came from.

Hello everyone. We're still on disc 1 on the Dutch CDs, Ms Virn - disc 2 next week. I like this episode - lots of good world building, even though they are still stuck with the old-fashioned but surprisingly prevalent idea that slave labour is the best way to mine anything. Talking of CDs, is the new BBC one really called 'Revenge of the Mutoes', rather than Mutoids? |

There used to be a lane in Elie (a village in Fife where we spent summer holidays) called Muttoes Wynd. Perhaps that's where they are plotting their revenge from? |

they are still stuck with the old-fashioned but surprisingly prevalent idea that slave labour is the best way to mine anything. The best in the sense of being cruel to other humans, I suppose. Talking of CDs, is the new BBC one really called 'Revenge of the Mutoes', rather than Mutoids? Yes - the CD is readings of stories from the Annuals published in 1978 etc. They were the typical paid-for-hire writers churning out any old thing just to have something to sell at Christmas time. These are the same annuals that had drawings of Servalan with long hair and Travis with a beard. The CD title is the name of one of the stories. Then again, we could imagine that if a crimo is turned into a mutoid, you get a super-evil 'muto' mutoid. |

No, I was wrong. It's Muttoes Lane, and it's in St Andrews, not Elie. Perhaps these Mutoes have a golf-based culture? |

I think he was one of Julia's lovers in a recent episode of I Claudius. Yes, he's in I, Claudius. His character dies in a boating accident arranged by Livia, I think. Unfortunately he died young in real life. |

I should really get into some of these CDs. The ones about the Clonemasters might be interesting. |

Apparently this episode was brought forward to cover a gap due to Pip & Jane Baker's "Death Squad" script falling through. If it had stayed as the eighth episode, the intergalactic drive reference would be closer to the final episode. Not that there's anything else in the other episodes to hint at reactions to an external threat. |

That's a continuity blip, but there are one or two others, espeically the reference to them being on the adrenaline and soma for ages when Vila has just before been introduced to it. I still like this episode a lot because it's always pertinent. Anyone who thinks we've been "post-colonial" the last few decades is an idiot. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.
