UK Rewatch - B8 Hostage (Tuesday, May 19th)

Alpha Grade Posts: 9002 Joined: 16.01.22	The episode: Barney Eight - Hostage (Carry On Kissing Cousins) The date: Tuesday, May 19th, 2026 The time: 7.45pm UK time In which new outlaw Travis contacts Blake – but can he be trusted? Along with the way, we meet: Blake’s uncle; his old love, his cousin (fortunately there doesn't seem to be any six-fingered little Blake/Inga’s around); the Crimos (what happened to Travis’s Mutoids?), and Kevin Stoney. And watch out for the Polystyrene Rocks, the Maggie Thatcher Mutoids, and for the death stare of Jenna Stannis! Episode in a word: The word is… TELEPORT! Of course. Character to cheer: Councillor Joban makes a formidable political opponent to Servie – it’s a shame he’s only in a couple of scenes. Characters to boo: Travis is exceptionally stupid in this episode. He used to want to kill Blake. Now he just imprisons him, until he has the chance to escape. And talking of stupid, Vila isn’t very bright in this episode either. Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes. Recognisable Face: John Abineri (uncle Ushton) was Hubert, a regular in the final two seasons of Survivors. He also had a number of roles in Doctor Who, including playing the misguided General Carrington in “The Ambassadors Of Death", and was Rimmer's dad in "Red Dwarf". Best line: “There's no-one as free as a dead man.” Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Ginger Mercenary Vote Og.

Our top story tonight, Ex Cons on ExBar. Wanted fugitive and former Space Commander Travis reported on ExBar in the company of Crimmos. He was allegedly looking to do a deal with that notorious terrorist Roj Blake, using Blake’s Uncle Ushton Blake, and cousin Inga Blake as hostages, or failing negotiations, bait in a trap. If the name Inga Blake sounds familiar, she was last year’s runner up in the GalaxyVision Doctor Who Companion Lela lookalike contest. And if the name Exbar sounds familiar, it is where the old Federation of the 23rd century quarried rocks for alien planets, the type that look large and heavy but bounce like balls and can hit a small dog and do no damage to the diminutive canine. Inga and Ushton were apparently under the delusion that they were part of a larger, if struggling agro community, even though Federation ships led by none other than Supreme Commander Servalan found no other living beings on the planet. Proof that Blake Derangement Syndrome affects multiple generations and all branches of the family tree, which, if rumors of Blake and Inga are true, is less of a tree with branches and more of a straight line stick…. In any event, Travis once again failed to bring Blake to justice, but also failed to make a criminal alliance with him. The Federation Justice Department expressed no interest in pursuing further charges against Inga Blake and Ushton Blake, stating they would be grateful if we never mentioned them again. Stay tuned for more updates after our 20:00 movie, Family Affair, though we’re not sure which one, as the Intergalactic Movie Database lists more than eight entries for that title. Somewhat Ironic, that. . . Cockatoo? What Cockatoo? I don't see a Cockatoo!

Almost everything in B7 is a message, and this one in particular can hardly be anything else, yet I still fail to grasp it. I tried to see the kiss as something innocent, but the way Jenna was looking, which Blake highlighted with ‘All right, Jenna?’, wouldn’t let me.
