Definitely authentic. Better than hearing them being taken out and aimed at you.

The only problem I have with this episode: the launch pad. How would that work without incinerating everything in the surrounding room, even assuming that different fuels are used by this time. Simply the energy required to lift the craft would fritz things.

Maybe the platform it sits on is an elevator that takes it up above the launch doors. Or perhaps it has some kind of vertical take off system, like a Harrier jump jet - but yes, it's such a small room for any kind of thrust, whatever the direction.

I can buy the idea of the platform lifting up, but a whole load of other supporting gear would need to rise with it that would do a bit of damage to that ever-so-white room. The rest of the episode is brilliant.

Further thought - perhaps that's the intention. If it's only used when abandoning base, which would only be if under attack like this, then they want records destroyed, potential hostiles nearby killed, etc. A Scorched Earth escape.

I had thought of that, but it's a bit of a cynical exit strategy because we know from earlier on that those craft can only hold a very few people.

The scowling between Avon and Grant is precious. But this mention of a woman is interesting. Who could she be?

Hard to build a rocket silo in a BBC studio. Give them a break. Mind you, we managed a Viking Longship that emitted smoke from its figurehead's nostrils on our tiny stage for one of our pantomimes.

They only had to pretend; use stock BBC footage etc. Snorting Viking dragons is pretty good. Mr Obsidian used to do the lighting and FX for a few local bands, including the smoke machine.

Federation ruthlessness all the way. It doesn't look like there's lots of those ships around. Everyone left behind will die from the solium radiation anyway, regardless of how clean the ship could take off, or what side they're on. The main concern is probably to stop any invaders transmitting classified data offworld to other groups before they succumb to the radiation.

Been listening to The Liberator Chronicles Vol. 9 again, the one with Del Grant and Solvin Tavac (Vila's dad). Really very good.

Very much, and that totally recognisable voice.

Must add: too bad he ended up with one totally nutcase son.

Efficient often looks like ruthless if you don't agree with it. It gets the job done.

Because Restal was the mum's name, which Vila doesn't want Tavac to mention. Vol. 9 is excellent, with Pacey, Chadbon, Darrow, Chappell, Keating and David Warner as Vila's dad. A brilliant line-up.

Cavan Scott was one of the writers on LC09. Solvin Tavac - anagram of "Cavan lov's it"?

Blake's not good on keeping to the times he sets, so why should Avon take any notice of them?

Avon tossing the bracelets away instead of merely putting them aside for later... I'm sure it's because he's thinking of Anna.

M1795537OCVirn
This Anna woman seems to have caused all sorts of trouble. Dead or otherwise, I think I'd steer clear of her if she ever turned up again.
