M1 mentioned in passing that she had a mild difference of opinion with others of this parish regarding Cally's character and specifically (my words, not M1's) her defining slight drippiness. Which got me thinking...which of the main B7 characters is the wettest? Such wetness may be a vital part of their make-up. It may even offer essential scope as a plot device. It may only manifest itself on occasion. But to which core B7-er do we ask Marti Pellow to present our B7 Wet Wet Wet Award? Edited by Cygnus Bazza on 12-08-2026 13:12 |

Surely Zen, Orac and Slave would short-circuit if they were even slightly wet? My beef about Cally was not with Jan C's acting, but that the writers forgot who she was in Time Squad, which left her with only the telepathy, which to them meant (inevitably) getting taken over by aliens (by comparison, if Servalan had captured a telepath, she'd make sure she created the ultimate spy). Consequently the character of Cally became increasingly damp, because she always ended up a loser. Even that last remaining moon disc probably died, and it was hardly scintillating company to start with. She deserved better. If anyone was wet, it was Tarrant. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

My positive memories of Cally are first in Time Squad when she was the warrior, then in Shadow when she threatened Space City. But finally I liked that she objected to the treatment of Shrinker in Rumours of Death, saying that sort of behaviour was catching.
I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

I don't know if I'd want to label any of our actor's characters as wet but I think the description does seem to fit Cally at times. Maybe occasionally Blake, too. Would I vote for any as wettest? No.

What do you think about Avon’s change from calling Blake insane and a dreamer to "In the end, winning is the only safety."? But I wouldn’t call it wet-lettucery, because it’s a positive change. Some people just need more time to grow up. In Time Squad, we see Cally in an “ultimate destruction” mode, but that was a very particular extreme situation - many people would enter such a state under similar circumstances. And I think her telepathy was used in quite enough cases. She needs a leader, and it’s perfectly normal for her to change somewhat when the leader changes. Still, in her final cry, she called out “Blake”, despite her special attitude towards Avon in “Sarcophagus”. If anyone’s abilities were left underused, it was definitely Orac, which was least of all his fault - he complained about it himself more than once. So I’m picking Tarrant - solely and exclusively because of his romance with Servalan in “Sand”, even though she was responsible for his brother’s death, which made the whole thing feel rather sinister. P.S. Mind you, I’m not sure I've got the meaning of “wet-lettucery” quite right. |
