It really never was about the plague, well, at least only at the beginning. It's a story abut human nature, good and bad and how tangled a web we weave throughout life. And trying to get back to what they knew of life. Yes. The plague enabled them to peel back the veneer of civilisation and see what lay beneath. Golly, we're getting profound.
