 45th Anniversary rewatch - C12 Death-Watch

The episode: Colin Twelve – Death-Watch (Carry On Watching Blake’s 7) The date: Tuesday, September 19th, 2023 The time: 7.45pm UK time In which Chris Boucher gets to write his Western and does a rather magnificent job with it; Vila wants to go on holiday, but he’s daft enough to suggest the outskirts of the derelict Wembley Exhibition site, rather the lakeside at Gardinos; Avon and Servie have another snog; Avon remembers Dayna has a feud with Servie, because the script editor is writing the episode and he knows these things; Avon remembers Cally is telepathic, because the script editor is writing the episode and he knows these things; there's a cheeky reference to Star Trek being fiction within the B7 universe; and there’s TWO Tarrants in this episode – work out what you could do with two of him (steady!). Yes, it’s time to dig out your green post-it notes and stick them on your forehead, as we re-watch another brilliant episode. Episode in a word: Duel. Character to cheer: Avon is on fine form here, coming up with a clever plan to foil Servie’s schemes, and saving double the planets that Blake did in 26 episodes simply to get one up on Servie! This is perhaps the last episode of B7 to have a happy ending… well, if you ignore that (SPOILERS) Tarrant’s brother has just kicked the bucket! Character to boo: Vinni is not only an android, but highly annoying too. Deeta should have shot him in the back when he had the chance. Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes. Recognisable Face: Steven Bevan (Max) was Professor Jones in the Doctor Who serial “The Green Death”. The jammy git won the heart of Katy Manning’s Jo Grant. Best line: “Are you sure you can't redesign him as something useful, like a drinks dispenser? Or an empty space. I think he'd look really good as an empty space.” Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Through The Particle Cloud Vote Og.

Vila wants to go on holiday, but he’s daft enough to suggest the outskirts of the derelict Wembley Exhibition site, rather the lakeside at Gardinos Sorry for nitpicking, but as Zondar pointed out in his Watching B7 blog (https://watchingblakes7.wordpress.com...he-budget/), it isn't Wembley: Quote For years the location was documented as being part of the Empire exhibition site in Wembley, London. But apparently it is part of Southall Gas Works. This makes sense, as it is a place that is no stranger to Blake’s 7 – the home of the maximum security communications base on Centero. The Wembley ruins turn up several times as the CI5 training grounds in The Professionals and they DO look different. This is perhaps the last episode of B7 to have a happy ending… I beg to differ. There are at least two happy endings in Derek: 1. Assassin (ding, dong, the witch is dead!) 2. Animals (creepy Justin buys it - and no need to be sorry for Og, he has only a flesh wound!) |

There is something about this episode that bothers me. That is about our crew wanting to experience a fight to the death. And to have drinks and snacks while you watch. I would NEVER want to do this. I know are crew are criminals, but even so it is something I just don't understand. I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

It's a reality show,in my mind. Yes it is disturbing, immoral but as in the fight entertaining. Just my take I plan to live forever,or die trying.

I agree,I think where the crew been on edge,become (mostly) desensitizied ,but there are moments when they are shocked, horrified even bored. Love this episode,there is more going on,even Tarrant not shooting in the back I think this episode is meant to feel uncomfortable. I plan to live forever,or die trying.

Should I get ready for this episode with drinks and snacks? Honestly, this is a very uneasy episode which seems to bring the crew back to the ancient Roman times. But then in the extreme. To be fair, it’s mostly Vila who is interested in the gladiatorial aspect. The rest of the crew mostly becomes interested when they find out Servalan is involved. Other than that they are mostly interested in the fact that the games provide them a safe haven..
