I do feel I should DO something in memorial? A fund raising effort of some kind? Although I don't know the details I heard that Michael retired from conventions because of cognitive decline? I would like to do some thing to raise money for the relevant charity. Who is with me? What do you suggest? I was very fond of Michael as well as Vila being my favourite. So I would love to contribute. Well that's no fun! No seriously first you need to have a target and usually an objective. Secondly less than 80% of these projects succeed in raising sufficient funds. This usually means the money donated should be paid back to the doners.... so the charity gets nothing if that happens. Thirdly two years ago I tried to raise money for a terminally ill friend to go on holiday. I set a target of £2.500. I raised £90. £80 of which I donated. After 6 months they compulsory closed the fund. I did not get a refund. So NO, crowdfunding is not the way to go on this. |

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear that as that's not my understanding of how a 'Go Fund Me' works - you should have got your donation back if they were closing the fund and no money had been given to the person or charity it was set up for. But you've said Crowd-Funding and that's not the same as a 'Go Fund Me' - crowd-funding is to have people get together for a particular project and if not enough is raised then they close it and refund the donors. A Go-Fund me is more flexible where if you don't hit your target the chosen charity would still get the money raised even if it wasn't as much as they'd hoped. I'd need to look more carefully at all the regulations though, to be sure. |
