Gingka is fascinating. One of the very few ethnic minority officers we see in the Federation, and he is complaining about being passed over. I have a theory that the pre-Federation regime practiced ethnic cleansing (explaining the number of planets with black leaders in Warlord - they were all banished from Earth). Since the Federation took over, a few have come back (Hal Mellanby, for example), but the Federation is still very white, and anyone else stands out a mile.

This may be the first time she's heard of Anna, though. I don't think Avon told anybody about his conversation with Del Grant - certainly not Blake, and very doubtful if he'd have shared with anyone else.

But the usual reaction to tasteless jokes would be a groan, or 'tut-tut, that wasn't nice, was it?' rather than full blown hilarity?

All the singletons are having a laugh at the idea of dealing with so many children. Hilarity, rather than creeping around trying not to offend anyone, especially not Cally, I imagine would be the natural response, quite simply as a point of relief. If Cally were there, I don't think they would have done it
