If B7's 'Duel' is Danny Dyer, Trek's 'Arena' is Edward III. Massively entertaining - though admittedly not always for the right reasons. Quite a good episode if you like a Stuntman Drinking Game - Kirk's & Spock's (quite convincing) doubles provide several opportunities for a tipple. Magic moment: when it looks like the Gorn is about to break into a medley of Rodgers & Hammerstein showstoppers. And what the hell is he/it wearing? Something from The Great British Sewing Bee's transformation round, perhaps.

I don't get the references I'm afraid. If this is Edward III, he hasn't yet convincingly outwitted his mother and her lover, or made war on France.

Hello Anne - didn't you get my PM? Anyway, if you're going to be here next week, we can rewatch the Tribbles.

I don't really remember this episode at all, apart from the actual fight with the Gorn.

I think that’s because everyone have parody from Big Bang theory etc iconic

I remember this one because it was a childhood favorite for both me and my brothers. They even have a poster of the Gorn on their wall!

I like Kirk being more concerned for his ship's safety than for his own.

Space Legends.

I’d absolutely read a book or watch a movie with that title.

I don't really like this part of the story. Kirk is playing out of character for me. He is usually more measured in his response.

And Kirk takes about as much notice as Blake.

I suspect something about this touched a nerve for him. Unfortunately, that’s never really explored like they did in the ep Obsession.

But unlike Blake, Kirk normally does pay attention to Spock. It's out of character/ bad writing.

And Kirk takes about as much notice as Blake.

Can you imagine how hot the poor actor in the Gorn suit must have been during filming? Stay hydrated buddy!

Well, if Kirk's being uncharacteristically agressive, maybe it'll help in the fight.

Possibly but I think the writing is at fault. They make Kirk do what he does just to get him to meet the gorn

Kirk’s usual fight moves are proving ineffective…
