This is different to the book, but given it's told in the first person of someone us telling the story in the first person, it was going to be tricky to replicate. It's doing a decent job of it! For me, it's one of those instances where the film is its own entity and works well. Correct War of the worlds too I plan to live forever,or die trying.

The 'action' is slow compared to films today. He'd have been eaten by some kind of alien monster by now. Or had a crazy car chase or something, (who cares what the book was like - we need to cater for a modern audience...)
