Thursday 29th August 7.45pm There are two related films: the Children of Green Knowe (Based on Book 1 of Lucy Boston's series) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22FoL...2FoLS07ho0 (1999), with Patricia Routledge and From Time to Time (2005) with Maggie Smith, (based on 'The Chimneys of Green Knowe', book 2 in the series) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6DN4...6DN41UjO2g Since they are both about 90 minues, we can't do both in one rewatch, so maybe we start with the first and the second next time? Or would one be enough? "You're not sulking, I hope?"

I think it will be harder to comment just listening to something unknown.

I think it will be harder to comment just listening to something unknown. What if we listen to it in private sometime, and comment here if we have anything to say, but watch the Maggie Smith one together tonight? "You're not sulking, I hope?"

I've seen it before, and enjoyed it very much. It gives it a war setting, and Tolly's father missing in action, and it assumes that this is the first time he has been to Green Knowe, but the actual story is fairly faithful to the book, as far as I remember. |

'Tolly' is older than 13. Maybe 15 or 16, I'd say. Nice to have a proper Manchester accent. Like being home.

He's not as good as the tv lad He's very different - quite a lot older, and rather more spiky and combative. Last week's Tolly was more like the one in the book. |

Do you mean, different from the one in the first book, or different from the one in the second one? But I agree, and he's a bit too old for all the imaginative stuff that Little Tolly was so good at. I like Maggie Smith as the grandmother, but do you think they have put in too much backstory that wasn't in the book? |

He's spiky because of his dad being missing, I suppose. On edge, I mean, especially in a weird old house.

In the second book, as far as I remember, he was like the Tolly of the first book, only older. And of course having met Toby, Alexander and Linnet, he wasn't surprised to meet Susan. |

Haven't read the second book, so I don't know about the backstory, although there is a lot going on, one way and another...

I know I appeared to be critical of the ending of the tv version but I only meant it should have had a end of the holiday type ending to round it off... I liked the lack of things and people , it added to the atmos. The atmos in this version is being trampled on, for me. Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!
