Life on Mars series two episode 8 Thursday 20th May 2025 7.45pm
OneSparePart
It's the end of the world as we know it...but how does Sam feel?

Last week, Sam met the voice on the telephone, the man from Hyde. He is plotting against Gene Hunt and apparently Sam is in on it but Sam doesn't know what's going on. No change there then.
This week, the whole gang get into deep trouble and it's up to Sam to save the day. What will he choose to do?

And for the last time I say: go to the bbc iplayer.

I don't know what went wrong, I just can't find the reason.
I thought the game was won, but facts can be deceiving.
So I'm going to find the way, to become what I am.
I'm going to find the way, back home.

Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy.
Oh man!
Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
Is there Life On Mars?

I don't know if anyone else will be here to watch this final episode but...
It's a God awful small affair
To the girl with the mousey hair,
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
And her daddy has told her to go,
But her friend is no where to be seen.
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seats with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen......

Poor old Sam. Crushed and broken.

I won't be joining you all (naturally) but (naturally) happy to take 100% of the credit for suggesting this rewatch. You're very welcome. No, really.

Thinking about it, it would be the acme of rudeness not to give Horizoners another opportunity to ignore one of my ill-judged offerings for last year's Adventurous Calendar, as it seems kind of apposite on this occasion. And whatever the opposite of apposite is.

LIFE ON VIRN?

It's an oddly oddball affair
To the guy with the curly hair
But it’s funny how things can go
When the baddie has stolen the show

But his friends are nowhere to be seen
And now even the sand is green
No, there’s nothing else Del can do
’cos he's hooked to the queen of mean

But the plot is no maddening bore
No, she’s not quite the girl next door
And she spits in the eyes of fools
As they beg her for mercy, those

Failures fighting for the long haul
Poor Gan – sad how such brave men go
Let those freaks feel the blows
Would you look at the bad man
Beating up that Kerr guy?
Mad man! Who could never, ever know
It was the best sci-fi show?
Is there life on Virn?

It's writ on randy Del’s tortured brow
That Servie hoovered him up somehow
Piri always was such a pain
Is Avon for sale again?

My advice is don’t make a fuss
’bout Assassin or Sarcopha-gus
Hey, no storyline’s out of bounds
For Del’s brother or Og, we’ve found

So no plot is a maddening bore
Let’s beg Terry and Chris for more
May the show be a hit again
And the fans can all focus on

Failures fighting for the long haul
Poor Gan – sad how such brave men go
Let those freaks feel the blows
Would you look at the bad man
Beating up that Kerr guy?
Mad man! Who could never, ever know
It was the best sci-fi show?

I like it! But which particular bad man is beating Avon up (there were so many . . .)

Ha! We escaped the wedding! It was dependent on our car being fixed, and the new part hasn't arrived. Reprieve! So you're stuck with me again tonight. Glad I will see the 'final' episode, although I suspect they'll still leave some bits hanging. That sort of writing gets to be a habit after two whole series.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

Well, I am raring to go. I will hang on for 5 mins or so just in case but whatever happens I am watching this tonight. A great ending. Up there with Blake but way funnier.

Don't tell me it's an even jokier ending? Can't stand it!

Hurray! Not solo after all. Although I will say this...it's a good job you can't see me mostly because I always cry at the end....

Anyway, what do you mean, hang on for 5 mins?..it's not even time yet,

Shall we hang on for AA or start as usual?

Now it's time...are we still waiting 5 mins?

Hi. I'm here - there was a dinner tonight, but I am too tired, after a week of exam invigilation (not allowed to sit down - more tiring than you would think), so you're stuck with me too. Just settling down.

Well, AA was here at 10 to 6, so she must be around. Go to 7.50 then START!
I spoke too soon. We are a triumvirate!

OK, starting!
In one of my OU exams the invigilator fell asleep. In another, he said 'I have a lot of revising to do - don't need anything, please'. So encouraging.

And well done the Virnmobile! You'll have to reward it for getting you out of the wedding.

Yes, that didn't have quite the same resonance when this was filmed!

For university exams you can sit down - luxury!

Next family wedding I am going to use the Virnmobile as an excuse to get out of going.

Speeding down the back alleys taken to the point of absurdity. I like the washing. But what is the song?

Well you can look at it a few ways: oops; purely historic; historic with present day overtones.

This is all pretty well horrible so far. Why would anyone watch it for 'entertainment'?

Do you usually stick to watch with mother level of viewing?

You can either look at that in a positive way, or in a negative 'women are token minorities so can't be shown up' way, I suppose.
