CRUD CLUB: SEXTIC SIXTH REWATCH - 19.45, Weds 11th June in the year 2025
Cygnus Bazza
Well, watching this stuff is like giving yourself the third degree, times two. (Hence the 'sextic' bit, not that I really understand the term.) Anyway, as a good long-lapsed Catholic, I appear to have mislaid my cilice and thus am in the market for another form of self-flagellation. So...

LET’S DO THIS! (if we can remember how to)

Time/date: 7.45pm (BST), Wednesday 11th June

Event: What some people are calling The Big One. But those would be the people who've never actually seen a big one. (Film, that is.)

So what are we watching/rewatching this time? The Wasp Woman (1959, 1 hour 13 minutes). To be precise, it's three seconds shorter than that. And, believe me, you'll be thankful for every one of those three seconds when you've sat through the other four thousand three hundred and seventy seven. Let's just get it out the way and stop it lingering like a late Victorian London fog. A million views on YouTube, which tells you everything you need to know about our species: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpPAN...mp;t=301s

Synopsis: It's all reassuringly predictable stuff and unfolds in a way that makes glaciation look rapid, and does exactly what it says on the jam jar with a hole punched into the lid and stuck out in the garden by your granny, back in less enlightened times. M1 keeps it quiet, but this film actually rides surprisingly high in her all-time list, nestling between Max Nosseck's early classic Einmal Möcht' Ich Keine Sorgen Haben (1932), a musical comedy set in the Depression (oh yes), and Man About Das Haus: Der Movie. There's literally no accounting for bad taste, is there?

Really? We're actually going to watch it, after all this time? Can hardly wait.
PS. I HATE wasps.

That's okay, the "wasps" in it are bees Grin Grin
Vote Og.

I've seen this horrible bit of cinematography a few times and I'm very glad it's only a little over an hour long! Of course, I doubt it will hold up to the brilliant Invasion of the Hell Creatures we last watched....

Wasps ARE hell creatures!

Not compared with Asian hornets. I saw one at Sutton Hoo a fortnight ago and it was the size of a small hang glider. Must have been a queen, I suppose, which was appropriate as it was quite close to Mound 14.

I hope you reported it!! Those things are BAD NEWS for bees!

There's an app. But, as you discovered at Seek-Locate-Celebrate, I don't really 'do' smartphone culture. Had a semi-comical word with an English Heritage rep. "What makes you think it was an Asian hornet?" "It looked like one." "Are you sure it was an Asian hornet?" "No. But it looked like one." "Did you take a photo?" "No, I was dodging out of the way of the Asian hornet." Time Team are down there at the mo so let's hope they don't disturb the nest when they're digging.

Well, given the less-than-ringing endorsement by the faithless Crud Club faithful, I'll deselect this selection (again) and suggest you lot pick something from 'your' list rather than 'my' list for the next rewatch. There. And breathe...

Paula
Or we could just sit and watch The Wasp Woman and then get it over and done with, and pick yet another sterling choice of crud films to watch next. I'll watch anything!

I'd get M1 to set something up that the rest of the Crud Crew can get behind. Happy to bale out. Not a biggie.

Is the unmentionable WW any worse than the crud we've already watched? I mean, really?

Have decided to give this a miss as I've something even better to do next Wednesday. Plenty of time for you to pull wOSP Woman off the park and throw on a substitute. Entirely up to you, of course.

Cygnus Bazza
Due to popular demand - and cocking a snook at the critics - 'The Wasp Woman' is now cleared for take-off this Wednesday. Snook-cocking will be mandatory.

I suggest alternating Crud Club and WET GECKO rewatches, so each would be an every-other-month event. But it'd be good to launch WET GECKO this month, hence my suggestion of a June date for the inaugural viewing.

Very much open to all your input, though. Well, some of it. Possibly. In fact, almost certainly not all of it. Not by a long shot.

Cygnus Bazza
One day to go, Crud Crew...

EpiPens on standby!

Astounding.

Cygnus Bazza
Well, I'm confidently expecting a small but select audience to rock up for this landmark rewatch tonight.

Crud-crazy connoisseurs only, please. No riff-raff.

Only minutes away now. Getting Wasp Woman up and ready.

I'm on my own with dad tonight and he's being a bit...difficult. can't join you except to leave this message. Have a good evening.
Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

Cygnus Bazza
Just in the foyer, heading into the cinema. Nearly forgot! Pick 'n' Mix! Cola cubes and flying saucers. Will they attract wasps? And you just can't have a crud '50s film without a few flying saucers, of course.

That's a shame! Hope you cope.

Who's in da house, then?

Loin-girding's mandatory for 'art' such as this.

I'm here. Thought about bringing a smoker, in case the wasps get out, but decided against it.

I don't think Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins is available.

All set for our sting operation?

Box ticked. And here we go!

Paula
Of course, I should have realized, it's a Roger Corman film.

Intro begs the question: had anyone involved in the making of The Wasp Woman ever actually met a wasp? Or indeed a woman?

Paula
Forgive me but isn't the intro to the film honey bees?

M1795537OCVirn
Started. You're right. Those are bees. If they'd get the writing out of the way we might be able to spot the queen.

Roger Corman made some great films. He also made The Wasp Woman.

‘From a story by Kinta Zertuche’. Don’t think I know any other stories by Kinta Zertuche. I wonder why.

Cygnus Bazza
The film starts a bit slowly so you might like to find something else to do while it gets going. Like painting a mural.

Cygnus Bazza
Is he looking for the xylophone?

M1795537OCVirn
That smoker hasn't been used much. It's still shiny.

The composer didn't waste any crud writing this soundtrack!
