It's our new PRE-B7 HEAVEN Thursday rewatch series - delving into dodgy old corners and pulling out a few plums (but you can take that either way). PLEASE SUGGEST stuff we can cherry-pick the plums from - we're not watching all of them. CORE CAST ONLY, ideally roles before their big modest-sized break with B7. (But we CAN cheat and go for something post-B7.) E.g.: Gareth T: Stocker's Copper (1972): one-off 'gritty' Play for Today (which now means yesterday, of course) Knights of God (1987): we could cheat and watch a couple of these to keep OvZ onside Paul D: Z Cars episode (the Pliocene Period): already awarded the OFFICIAL OSP CHARTER MARK FOR BRAVURA BLAKE-RELATED PERFORMANCES The Legend of Robin Hood (1975): PD as the Sheriff, presumably with henchmen Guy of Gisbourne and Ozzy of Osbourne David J: The Eyes Have It (1973): excellent 'Thriller' episode with Dennis Waterman, Peter Vaughan, Sinead Cusack & Alun Armstrong (i.e. people wot we've heard of) Jacqueline P: The Edwardians (1973): Episode 8, where JP's a countess and Anthony Hopkins is Lloyd George and quite Welsh. "MY FAVOURITEST", SAYS M1. And let's face it, she should know. Sally K: Who Pays the Ferryman? episode (1977): baloney-packed Cretan cobblers, but it's sunny, the scenery's decent and who doesn't need a minor tour of the Labyrinth? Stephen Greif: Citizen Smith (1977): if available, come the glorious day. Any more (esp. for cast members not covered here)? Lob 'em in! JUST TO MAKE IT INTERESTING (in Steve Davis' continued absence) we'll run a league table! All rewatchers will score each performance (out of seven, naturally), we'll tot up the scores and we'll see which cast member was OFFICIALLY the BEST before fame(ish) came a-calling... Gareth T Children of the Stones. Still pretty terrifying! I look exactly as Avon reasoned I would.

Gareth T Children of the Stones. Still pretty terrifying! The Gold Standard for scary kids TV, I'd say. We did a full rewatch a year or two back, so it might be a little early to revisit. Not that I'd mind dipping in again, personally. There's literally no such thing as Avebury overload. No strong opinion how we approach this rewatch 'series'. Maybe a couple of one-offs, then a full, short series (e.g. The Legend of Robin Hood - 6 episodes), then another couple of one-offs. Keep going until the ennui kicks in. Which it will, of course. As it should. Keep it fresh. Not a fan of LOOONG rewatches. Can always return to a show/theme later. Happy to roll with the tide, though. It's only a bit of telly. |

Not all pre-B7, but don't forget Jacs in Moondial (see our earlier rewatch), Dr Who and White Mischief (film, 1987), among other things, including a couple of Hammer Horror films and various theatre performances. Great idea for a thread, CB. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Great idea for a thread, CB. As our No.1 repository of Jax fax, I'll defer to you with regard to what we plump for. Is there an argument for doing a bit of a composite rewatch in JP's case? In The Edwardians, is it only the bit where she's in the sack with Lloyd George that'd be relevant or would we also sit through the rest of the episode (which she isn't in, IIRC)? We could perhaps visit two or three roles in, say, an hour? |
