CRUD CLUB: SEPTENTRIONAL SEVENTH REWATCH – Weds 23rd July, 19.45 BST
Cygnus Bazza
Lucky 7! Let’s celebrate by honouring our (relatively) northern (i.e. septentrional) members. So everyone bar me, a Saxon who’s never known the right Angles. Shout-out to our North American contingent, Paula & Brad, and those over here who live further north than me: O(S)P who I’m bracketing geographically with M1 (still only halfway up the British Isles)…

LET’S DO THIS!

When: Wednesday 23rd July, 19.45 BST (BLT if you’ve not eaten)

What: THE MONOLITH MONSTERS. 1957. That’s the year, not the number of monsters. Given budget constraints, we’ll be lucky to get three. Petrifying. Oh, the...HORROR!

Why: Because it’s there.

Who: Us, obviously. Keep up.

How: Using this link THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. (Look and learn, a certain someone not in this bracket.)
https://archive.org/details/the-monol...sters-1957 With Spanish subtitles! Hasta la vi... Sorry, that's someone else's catchphrase. Can't remember whose. So I'll go for ¿Dónde está la biblioteca?

Summary: Something strange misses major population centres and lands among people singularly ill-equipped to deal with the situation. Business as usual. But this time the threat’s geological, not biological. So one for rock fans but there’s a role for everyone. (Please add your own punchline.)

Handy Fact: Technically, this is a disaster film. Oh, ain’t it just…

Sounds like fun. Bring your own sofa to hide behind, eh?
Incidentally, thanks to our recent viewing, various old movies now keep appearing in my YouTube pages. I was wondering if this one might be added to the list of Crud:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvrEH...vrEHcmsOus Probably not involving space or aliens, but the title alone is enough to set the juices flowing.

Being a life-long rock-hound, I always liked this film because it all hinged on rocks brought home from some children's excursion if I remember correctly. I won't ruin if for the others who have not seen it, but the rocks take over and make a mess. But what will they do? it's an ingenious ending to be sure and I always loved the idea that the rocks were the monsters. See you all there!

I would like to join you today. It sounds interesting. I hope this movie isn't too scary. I don't like to be frightened.

I also found the movie here. Maybe this link will be useful.

You'd be very welcome, Taiellin. Our aim is to have a slightly chaotic laugh at the expense of films that aren't very good.

Basically the films are scary but quite old, which is probably why M1/Ms'Virn connects with them.Smile

Brad
When I was a wee lad living in Florida, we'd be out every summer day playing, until 3 PM, when it started to rain, and there was the Saturday Afternoon creature feature. This was one of the first ones I saw of this genre and time period.

Daft question - the Lyme IS a tributary of the Trent, I take it?

The lakes are wet today, thanks. Beyond that, my washing machine has packed up, so I'm living in filth. Well, it feels like it. Nearest 'whirlywash' as it's known in this family, is currently occupied full-time by muddy holiday campers and various assorted tourists, so laundry will have to pile up till the man comes with the new machine on Monday. Yuk.

Data de Lançamento: 18 de Dezembro de 1957

I guess not.,....

Talk of an invasion from space, a sure sign of an early cold war film.

I like having the subtitles. It’s a bit like being on holiday. (Never go on holiday without subtitles and a plug adapter.)
