Just watched last week's episode - alas, no Sheriff of Nottingham bathing that I could see. Was rather irritated by people calling him 'Nottingham' though - wouldn't have happened, IMO, unless there were a lot of other sheriffs about. And I see that we are going with Walter Scott on the Saxon/Norman thing.

The legend of Robin Hood - the tv show and the actual legendary figure - was rewritten for each age. In the tv/film era, perhaps because they are more broadly seen, the Scott version has lasted well.
Yours sincerely
A J P Taylor.

Yes, but calling the sheriff \nottingham is just wrong, like calling Sadiq Khan London.

And Robin, being short for Robert, a quintessentially Norman name, would be an odd name for a Saxon.

Miles Anderson, of course, was in ‘La La Land’. Which, coincidentally, is where Horizon members spend a high proportion of their time.

I bet he wouldn't mind being called...LONDON!

Nuts? I do have some to keep me from starving while we watch, but I can't share them with you, OSP.

Could you ask Mr Taylor whether that blue dye is contemporary, please.

The Earl of Huntingdon at this time was the younger brother of the King of Scotland.

Contemporary to the time the tv series was made.

Mr Tynan would have a more forthright answer

My guess is that they had the same mother. Or father. Or even both.

Sounds like Marian can make a start on the wedding list. Key items: monogrammed shot glasses, hedge trimmer, air fryer.

Maud, daughter and heiress of Waltheof, the first earl (created just before the conquest and continuing afterwards) married David I, King of Scotland, as her second husband. The earls seem to have given up the earldom when they became king, but this one, another David, never inherited the kingdom - although the later claims of Robert Bruce and John Balliol to the kingdom came through him.

There, that's more than you ever wanted to know. Sorry.

What's happened to them wearing green? Kendal was famous for making green fabric back then, apparently. Stuff Lincoln.
