The Prisoner rewatch 1. Arrival

I'm beginning to think those lava lamps are a bit sinister. Do they move about, or are there lots of them?

Hang on - Paul Eddington jumps out of the window and dies...and Number 1 vanishes. Is there a connection??

Yes the old no 2 was under the window when Eddington jumped out of it...

I had intended to join in but I started watching the Daleks in colour!! However, Thursdays from now on are busy. Apologies
I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

AnneArthur
No, not Deep Roy as the butler - if that was who you thought he was.

Daleks beat meteorological balloons and even lava lamps any day! Have fun, Lorna.

Wait a minute - Paul's back, and off to his job in the city, and living with Marjorie in Surbiton??

(Same advert , 5th iteration).

Yes, I had forgotten that he doesn't really die.

AnneArthur
There is indeed nothing quite like The Prisoner. A very enjoyable rewatch - see you next week.

I think they mended him and cured him of being a secret agent.

OK, see you for the next installment next week. Hope you both feel a little less overrun by then. Take care.

But he has new masters. Doesn't sound like a cure to me

Very much liked Arrival.

Definitely a scene setter for the rest of the series. It really goes to town on showing us Portmeirion - which is better known these days, but was still largely unknown in 1967 and therefore a mystery to viewers.

Patrick McGoohan is perfect as No 6. He's bad tempered enough to give Avon, Blake or Greg from Survivors a run for their money!

Arrival presents us with a mystery, although it's also not as oppressive as some other episodes, as Cobb does leave the Village without dying.

Yup, I'd forgotten that twist too. It seems you can escape the Village - if you sell your soul to the devil!

It's quite neat that No 2 changes (without explanation) during the episode. Gets us used to that No 2 will change frequently.
