You speaking techno language?

Just attempting to add a bit of verisimilitude to the proceedings.
For those to whom 'techno' language is too hard to follow,
'acclimating' (American English) = ACCLIMATISING, for goodness sake.
condenser - device that uses evaporation to collect water vapour from the (admittely thin) atmosphere.

That Martian bladder wrack the monkey was scoffing seems more palateable than the Terran kind.

And of course she is female - so we do have a female in the film, if not a female human.

I have to say that if I were shipwrecked on a desert planet, inventing the bagpipe would not be high on my agenda.

Strangely, it does seem to be an instrument that has been invented by several cultures.
Perhaps an early attempt to imitate the local wildlife - bagpipes make noises from breathing out, like most creatures??

Of course, the original Man Friday was being hunted too.

Blimey, he's thick, even for an American. Get rid of 'Friday's' bracelet tracking devices!

Typical English-speaker - I will teach you to speak English, I will not learn your language. A marooned Dutch astronaut would not only have learned Friday's language by now, he'd be correcting his grammar!

That monkey is getting a bit of manhandling in this film. Hope she lives to tell the tale.

It's probably impossible to write a story about someone being marooned somewhere without it having some throwback to RC, if only in the reader's mind.

Yes. It's an original story in both senses.

Well, that was OK. Ending was a bit sudden. But a nice study in space survival. Must remember that when I go to Mars.

The Martian is a better one for the survival stuff, if equally far-fetched in other bits.

Don't forget to take a monkey with you, so that it can show you how to survive.

M1795537OCVirn
I think it ended so suddenly because they'd run out of ideas! Or maybe budget.

True but it's interesting to note this is a few years before the actual events of Apollo 13 so all the stuff about using what you have became real for that crew.

So what happened to 'Friday'? Did he get back to Earth? Did the Andromedans follow? Is that how the Intergalactic War started? Where's the follow-up?

I don't know whose idea that was, but it was a good one. I'd never even heard of that film. What are we watching next week?
