I wish I'd been around when Orson Welles reading of the story on radio caused a panic!

I used to have a recording of it on cassette. Produced for some anniversary.

The minute he realised he was holding an actual woman. Maybe the first time (he's a scientist after all). Might be different if he takes the glasses off.

Note - he did take his glasses off. He'll have to marry her now. If they're alive.

I wonder what it must have felt like as a Brit or European, watching this film not long after a wotld war?

So he wasn't going to marry her when he could see her properly? Poor woman Grin

No mention of the animals that HGW made so much of. As in: his Martians were as much a higher order of existence to us as we are to animals.

Why do most aliens, meteors, storms etc all pick on either LA or Seattle?

They don't. In Doctor Who, they mostly attack London or Surrey.

That does seem to be the answer - for them at least. But germs are amazing, and frighteningly adaptable. Probably one of the most dangerous things facing humanity - after ourselves.

And our hero and heroine survive, despite having both a house and a city fall on their heads!

It seems to be a thing with 1950s/60s SF fims. Robinson Crusoe on Mars was exactly the same.

Well, he'd found her again, so there wasn't much they could show of what followed, there were all those extras to control and pay for, and they were running low on explosives, so...

For once, I agree with you OSP, it's a great film for its time. Even if it has so little to do with the original. Thanks for choosing it.

I like it. Miles away from the book but it works in its own right.

Right, I'm off to see what DEVA has suggested for the WORD. I'm enjoying this one - they are nowhere near the answer. Could it be time for OSP to leap in with one of her famous holes-in-one? I doubt it.
Hope your speedway people do well tomorrow, TT. Take care out there!

What are we watching next week?
