Other than the scientific ignorance, which is to be expected, this is a great film.

It would be hard to be anything other than fictional science. We know and can do so little.

Is the original title, Ikarie, anything to do with Icarus?

Here's where we came in...

You know what I mean. And we can do anything we decide to (more's the pity).

The Ikarie is the name of their ship and ironically translates to the ill-fated Greek figure “Icarus.” (from Film School Rejects)

Good thinking, Anne!

Do you know what it (the nebula) is? she asks. No, but it's not unlike the space fungus that did for the Liberator!

That bit was nail biting.

Natural born linguist ...

But I now wonder if JMS has seen this film.

Well Kubrick saw it. I reckon it's a film that film makers watch

I cannot believe that was the original ending. They discovered Fake America?

This can't be where it stops?

Ooh a twist. And not the original ending

Apparently it inspired 2001, according to the Film School Rejects

How did it really end?

So talk me through this. They have come round in a circle? Or was their Earth not the original, but one colonised by the original, and they have found the origins of their species (sort of Battlestar Galactica)? Or the whole thing is some alien species playing with their minds?

OneSparePart
I have just found the original czech film on youtube with english subtitles. Longer and with the original end

So what was the original ending, then?

Or was it just a bit of film someone threw in (assuming Czech watchers wouldn't recognise America)? Or did Americans add this bit to make it all end cheerfully?

Ah, yes, that's another possibility. Suspiciously actor-shaped aliens, but then most aliens are.

Anyway, that was very good. I'm really enjoying these old sci fi movies. Thanks for finding this one, and for watching it with me!

So what will she find for us next week?

I think it will be hard to beat this one. Unless we do 2001...

This is the original. In Czech with english subtitles. Extra scenes which were cut from the dubbed version. Plus the original end. You could always ff to the end....

Fiend! Are you referring to me?!
"I'm a good girl, I am"

If anyone has a suggestion for a film please drop a hint. I am having a rummage. The difficulty is finding a film that doesn't run on too long.
