Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (1956)

It's an American film, so it has to end with optimism (of a sort). Much more chilling if he'd fallen asleep. Then we'd never know who was who...
But who's to say the rest of humanity would do any better? Those pods are being distributed as we watch!

I like to look on the bright side...but I would have a phobia about sleeping for the rest of my .... natural? life.

Nice idea, though, and quite well done. Only spoiled by the weak ending, really.
You could split wood on that bloke's jaw. That's probably what won him the part.

I highly recommend the remake. It's a bit more ghastly though. You'd like it M'Virn.

As I said, I don't often watch this kind of thing, so I doubt I'd watch another version of it. But it was a good choice, although last week's was better!

So...are we rewatching more. Moving on. Having a rest. What say you?

I am inclined to look on the bright side too. There's enough misery in the world.

I think I might pass on that. This is about the right level of ghastliness for me!

Question: are either of you SF fans? I thought these films I put up here were staples of the SF diet (apart from last week) and yet..

I still think some Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would be worth a rewatch. Or maybe something like GalaxyQuest as an antidote to all the horror!

Actually, remembering one brief scene which I won't describe, I think you're wise.

I read my SF. Not really into having other people do too much of the imagining for me.

It's been an education, as they say.

I like seeing into other people's minds in that respect but I have neglected my SF reading of late.

Galaxy Quest would be fun, although I quite fancy Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea too.

I think, to my shame, I'm only really a sci-fi fan in the sense of TV series. I know quite a lot of those, and it's interesting to see how they interact, but I've never read much sci-fi, or got much into films.

I will have a look around for galaxy quest to stream. Although I have it on disc....if I can't find it?

Anyway, thank you both for a most enjoyable evening. See you next week!

Sleep tight! Don't let the alien pods bite!

Apparently G-Q is available on Channel 4, but you may need to sign in with them first, or something. Thankfully, I have it on DVD.

I have no idea what to choose from Voyage etc - I just remember I enjoyed it back when. But I can use the old 'stick a pin in it' method if that's acceptable.

Brilliant. Sticking pins in is a very 'Voyage' thing to do. Hasta la vista!
