Thursday 27th July, 7.45pm (BST). Continuing with Cygnus Bazza's selection in order of broadcast brings us to Arena, first shown in 1967. Pursuing an alien vessel which has decimated a Federation outpost, the Enterprise is halted by an unknown force and Captain Kirk finds himself in a nightmarish struggle to save himself and his crew from almost certain death. If B7's 'Duel' is Danny Dyer, Trek's 'Arena' is Edward III. Massively entertaining - though admittedly not always for the right reasons. Quite a good episode if you like a Stuntman Drinking Game - Kirk's & Spock's (quite convincing) doubles provide several opportunities for a tipple. Magic moment: when it looks like the Gorn is about to break into a medley of Rodgers & Hammerstein showstoppers. And what the hell is he/it wearing? Something from The Great British Sewing Bee's transformation round, perhaps. |

I typed 'dailymotion Star Trek Arena' into Google and the correct episode came up, so I copied this link from that: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8i...eo/x8ip2xp which worked when I tested it. Fake rocks are all as bad as each other, none of them even look heavy. I can almost remember this episode - some sort of duel to the death - but then they often repeated ideas. B7 never did that. Well, not much. There's half a chance I may be late/absent for this one, unless I can wangle a way out of my son's birthday (yes, I know, it's all my own fault for having him on the wrong day. But how was I to know it would come back to bite me?) And yes, it's two birthdays in two weeks. Three more to come in the next two weeks, but thankfully not on rewatch nights. (And not three more offspring, either). "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Nah, they didn't know what their plans for the evening were, so it was all easy in the end. Now - are we starting? AA may well nbe elsewhere, CB might lurk but not contribute, and OVZ wasn't well again on Tuesday. I think that means it's us tonight.

Love the metal cable conduit used in the set! They definitely got creative, and it’s fun to try and pick out “regular” items they used.
