When? Thursday 16th May 7.45pm What happens? You tell me! This film is an englished dubbed version of yet another film I have never seen: Ikarie XB 1 Ikarie B 1 is a Czech film which was cut by approx. 9 minutes and dubbed into english. Oh and they changed the ending. It is based loosely on a Stanislaw Lem book The Magellanic Cloud. That's all I know. We are watching the dubbed version because, as AA pointed out the other week, it would be difficult to watch a film, read the subtitles and also chat online about it. Here is the link to the dubbed version: https://youtu.be/cl_vM4Tk078?si=pLVE7...2Vo5yzcMuC I cannot find the original with subtitles to stream free ( or otherwise) but if you wish to guess what's going on, the Czech language version ( without subtitles) is on youtube... Here is a review of the (original version) film and its influence on... https://youtu.be/d1ZJVsyR0X8?si=c8phm...94uyWFQPg4 It's not really in depth but it might put some perspective on the original film. Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

It's actually a great film - enjoy! I've got the German dub on DVD. Funny thing is that there are two scenes left undubbed (they were probably cut for the first (East) German release and had since been restored with no one bothering to dub them). As I do not speak Czech, I had to switch on the English subtitles for these scenes (no German subtitles on my DVD). At least my version has the original ending. However, they supplied the (ridiculous) ending of the US version as a bonus feature. Really, what were they thinking? I already wanted to join you for Crusoe on Mars and The Day the Earth Stood Still; however, I didn't feel well for Crusoe and completely forgot about The Day. While I am tempted to join you tomorrow, I have my doubts. It might be quite confusing, as the two versions may not only have different run times but probably also different character names, and watching a film in German and at the same time communicating in English is also rather challenging. On the other hand, I haven't watched Ikarie XB1 for a long time... So, als Gandalf, G'Kar and Galen used to say: "Expect me when you see me." |

I've actually bought the original version to watch after Thursday's viewing. I was wondering if I should have waited but you have given me confidence. Yes, I still have faith in you as ABBA say...mmm does this mean I won't be : for a while? I don't know how long I can hold out..... Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

Well, as it would appear that only characters whose names begin with G can say 'expect me whe nyou see me' and yours begins with H . . . |

I like how they started with Michael in distress then flip back to tell the story from the start. It puts an edge on.

Quite a mix of ages on this trip. Most SF voyages are exclusively for the young.
