Rewatch Downunder Saturday 3rd August, C9 Sarcophagus
M1795537OCVirn
Starting at 7.30pm (AEST) or UK 10.30am (BST)

C9 Sarcophagus
Is this the 'marmite*' episode? Fans seem to either love it or hate it. Writer Tanith Lee uses her Fantasy talents to introduce something new to the B7 canon. Whether it's a breath of fresh air (although Cally does get taken over again) or more of the same with a twist (basically, different costumes) it's certainly a change.
Perhaps there's an issue in that it comes immediately after 'Rumours' - a hard act to follow - but for me the fantasy elements aren't really integral to the plot and create an unnecessary distraction from what is otherwise a reasonable story. In my view, Cally deserved better for 'her' episode. What do you think?

*Other yeat-based products are available.

I quite like this one including Cally’s role. Although I can understand why some people may not like it. I think the episode Cally really got duped on was Children of Auron.

Sorry guys I’ll be missing one more rewatch - I’m still in Tassie.

In the meantime, please know I’ve been doing my bit to defeat the aliens in the intergalactic war. Specifically I’ve captured one of their spaceships!

Well done, Agent T, for capturing the alien device. Once our technicians examine it, we will know more about the enemy!
But sorry to hear you won't be with us AGAIN. Don't leave it too long!

Are you suggesting the long-fabled blu-ray edition might be better?

Also, wouldn't TT let Og watch B7 on his set-up?

I can't imagine he'd prevent him. Og is used to screens after all.

This is my first rewatch and I recall enjoying this episode a lot partly due to how wonky it is and mostly because the Cally actor appeared to be having great fun.

I think some people don't like it because it's not derring-do. I like it because it takes B7 into a different space. And why not?

I'm OK. Crawling to the end of a busy month. Glad for a bit of warm weather. How are you both?

Are you warm? I'd like it if the weather would just decide on one thing. Super pollen here in The Nation's Capital.

I guess a really formative moment in B7 for me was when Orac was introduced and instantly almost got taken over by another dimensional being and I wasn't quite sure if Orac was going to stay or was a good or bad guy. I guess this episode harkens back to that a little bit!

Hello everyone. I'm just at the point where the alien's servants are being conjured up. I don't like this episode as much as Sand, but I do like the way Tanith Lee focusses on unexplored relationships between the crew.

There's an awful lot of synthetic chiffon in this episode.

I'd like it better if the weirdness was part of the story rather than making it 'different'. No argument with having different ideas/places etc, but there should be a point to them.

3m: Just weird alien ceremony stuff with no talking, plenty of strange costume and effects and a pure Dudley Simpson(?) soundscape.

I LOVE IT

Hi AnneA. All well with you?

The other thing is that it has many roles for female extras for once.

The opening sequence is perhaps a little too 'bandicoot of interpretative dance'.

Really there's nothing worse in scifi than aliens that are just humans (or humans with bumps on their noses). I like it when a show tries, even if they fail at least they try

A little bit, but without the cynicism of the last four decades. It's still ingenuous.

I'm OK - have spent a busy week tidying up the heresy book, only to find that there was a good reason for the way we had it before. But I'm planning a couple of weekends away, which is making me hopeful. And it's warm and the sun is shining. How are you?

The interior of the craft looks as if the party was good. After all, that's what a lot of big tombs were for: the send-off party.

I do like the exchanges between Avon and Cally here. His concern for her, and the way he takes her sidde.

Also the way he is dismissive of the asteroid project when it's Tarrant's idea, but the minute Tarrant drops it, he's all for it . . . Grin

dodgyville
10m: Avon asks if Cally just detected something from the alien ship

DAYNA: You can read minds sometimes. Did you?
CALLY: No.
TARRANT: I don't believe her.

Cally is low key the most interesting character. Almost completely wasted on this show! She was in prison for a reason! Reboot now!

Feeling less freaked watching B7. Another week of medical stuff resulting from my trip to the UK. This time next week I'll be in Kazakhstan! I'll have to be more sedate there.
