Presumably 'Rootes' would mean something to people then.

And just when Mr Quatermass had been so sensible and saved the day, he had to go and ruin it . . .

What rotten luck that his rocket hit the one bit of space where the'creature' lived. Unless it's everywhere,

As a serious question, what do you love about him?

That's why he has to go back - to find out.

That was very atmospheric - I thought that it might be shlocky, but it wasn't at all.

The quality came from having such a good cast, I think. And not overdoing the effects they used.

Yes, I think you're right. Glimpses of horrors, not close-ups.

Letting the audience invent their own version of whatever horrified them... including OSP's nightmares.

I think that One Spare Part has gone, which is a pity, because I was going to tell her that she has quite converted me - to the films, if not (yet) to Quatermass himself.

Are we doing the next one next week?

Well, he's a serious scientist with imagination which makes him more of a genius but dangerous too. However, he does get to show his caring sharing side at some point. Seriously he is a great creation as a character. He is definitely not a 2d boffin of the type you often see in these films.

I'll look forward to seeing more of him, then. Thank you for suggesting this - it was very enjoyable. Now back to the tennis!

I think that's the plan. Not sure which one it is, though. Have to wait until she posts the thread and link(s).
Not sure I'm 'converted' but it was a great rewatch.

Now who's into villains?

He is a complex character. Good and evil play no part with him.

Everyone's a complex character. Except Tarrant.

I don't think the 'thing' was evil, either. Just hungry.

OK, I'm off to see what disasters have happened in the rest of the house while I wasn't there to supervise. See you again soon, and thanks, OSP.
