Why not do it outside? And film it for us.

Ah, they re-used the fabric from the Telosian costumes in The Cage/The Menegarie.

Video evidence could cause problems with the inevitable insurance claim! Haha!

If they didn't do it, you might mistake them for ordinary non-powerful beings.

Nice to see you all! I always remember the rather unconvincing Gorn from this one - I had forgotten how good it was.

Hmmm. Kirk gets the win, THEN starts to think.

M1795537OCVirn
OK, not as good as Duel, but worth watching. Except for the stupid platitudes at the end, and the atttempt at a jokey ending.
Great comments, everyone. Hope we can do this again next week.

Well, Blakes 7 does falsely jokey endings too. But yes, in many ways less complex than Duel.

AnneArthur
Good night everyone.

If B7's 'Duel' is Danny Dyer, Trek's 'Arena' is Edward III. Massively entertaining - though admittedly not always for the right reasons. Quite a good episode if you like a Stuntman Drinking Game - Kirk's & Spock's (quite convincing) doubles provide several opportunities for a tipple. Magic moment: when it looks like the Gorn is about to break into a medley of Rodgers & Hammerstein showstoppers. And what the hell is he/it wearing? Something from The Great British Sewing Bee's transformation round, perhaps.

I don't get the references I'm afraid. If this is Edward III, he hasn't yet convincingly outwitted his mother and her lover, or made war on France.

Fair point. But let's not forget the classic episode where Kirk reacts badly to the seizure of Ponthieu and Spock brings his impeccable logic to bear on the issue of agnatic succession.

It's times like these when you wonder if anyone is likely to recreate the death of Edward III....:Wink

LOL! (Though I think you may be one Edward out.)

The version of 'Tomorrow is Yesterday' where the Enterprise hoovers up Edward III, or indeed any of the Plantagenets, rather than Captain Christopher really would be the very definition of must-see TV.
