Hugbot, this comic reminded me of when we all met at Didcot at the hotel before the Steventon con a few years ago. TT must have gotten there earlier and we were just trudging down the hallway with our luggage looking for our room number. All of the sudden we hear a room door open and TT emerged and shouted down the hall, 'I thought I heard American voices'. Yay! TT is here, we said. A start of a great weekend. Resist the Host

Oh, isn't he cute..... Not to mention the light blue/orange striped sweater... ![]() And these were only the early 70s... it would get worse! There's nothing wrong with light blue and orange...my Mum and Dad's kitchen was orange wall paper, the hall way stairs and landing a shade of blue patterned wall paper and the front room...mauve!!! Did they have avocado color appliances or was that only a thing in the US? |

Are you sure it is a good idea to have TT and Paula staying next to each other? Brad and Groucho may end up as referees in the Ginger Mercenary Wars. Love that Groucho is included in the name-card on the door. |

Did they have avocado color appliances or was that only a thing in the US? Quite likely! I seem to remember one of the things that Mildred loved about her new house in the first episode of "George & Mildred" was it's avocado-coloured bathroom. |

We had that bathroom suite until 2 years ago. It took 25 years of nagging but I've now got a nice white, silver and sparkly bathroom and downstairs cloak room! Yay!!!! Cold! Yes, he is cute (even in the 70s fashions). And I am impressed with the Logo skills. Thank you! ![]() The gravel mill on the right was a model kit designed by Lego, but the tower crane and the yacht were my own creations. Did they have avocado color appliances or was that only a thing in the US? I don't know about the UK, but in Germany, kitchen appliances were invariably white, even in the 70s with their nauseating brown-red-orange colour pattern. Bauknecht, one of the biggest manufacturers of kitchen appliances at the time, had the slogan '...weiß, was Frauen wünschen'. This was supposed to mean, '...knowing what women want'. (Those were the days...) However, the sentence was actually a little ambiguous, and as a child, I always understood it as 'white, just like women want it'. And I wondered why women didn't want a bit af colour in their kitchens... Edited by Hugbot on 11-10-2023 08:52 |

Did they have avocado color appliances or was that only a thing in the US? Reading the German and UK consensus, Ellen, it seems only America had those horrible avocado or even worse, harvest gold fridges and fittings. We at our house luckily didn't fall for that nauseating color combination as we had white fridge and stove and stainless steel sink. Very glad of that. We do have an avocado carpet in our computer room, still in use which was my Grandmother's in her flat in the 70's. It doesn't fall apart, much to our dismay! Resist the Host

Have they not paid anyone to sail the ship for them? Oh blast ye for a bunch of scurvy landlubbers! Hopefully the owner's brother/alter ego, Capt. Redbeard Rum will turn up. Hmm, thinking further, hopefully not! |

Yes, Groucho thinks he's king of the universe. And ask Lorna, she got grabbed by Groucho when she stayed with us. She walked past his cage and he grabbed her jumper, and Lorna exclaimed 'Groucho!!'. Not the nicest way to treat a guest in the house, but then, that's Groucho. Now if she had brought him a treat- that might have unruffled a few of his feathers.... Resist the Host

Thanks Huggy. That's great, what a fun thing to include. Hans Christian Anderson was my first thought. I wondered if it was a joke about the characters being disembodied heads with no hands/Hans, but it didn't really seem to fit so I discounted it. I suppose if you had known Jethro Tull at the time, the ship design would have incorporated some form of seed drill. There's Ian, there's Hans Christian, there's Gerry...there's even Misss-terrr AN-derr-sson... Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

I think we need some "get lost cookies" (or maybe "get lost Pringles" ). When my friends traveled with their then-small children and the kids would ask "Are we lost?", the answer was "Yes, we are lost. Here, have a cookie." I do hope the captain of the ship knows where they are going or this will be a very long quest. |

Someone has been looking at an Atlas! And yes Canada is about 30 mins from me...just off the M27 towards West Wellow. Daugter and I usually turn off just before getting on the A36 proper and head off to Shootash for our Saturday morning Car Boot Sale. There's a very nice Garden Centre along that road, not far from Canada. I shall have to start speaking posh by the sounds of it....I mean Hurricanes Hardly Ever Happen in Hampshire...don't they moosh? Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold! Oh, Canada! I thought you said the Granada. I was looking forward to seeing a movie... Don't worry about them getting lost. TT has been crushing up Pringles and dropping crisp crumbs overboard to leave a trail on the surface of the (immensely calm, flat) sea that we can follow ba-- hang on! What are those fish eating? Shoo! Shoo! Get away from those! Aargh! No Pringles, no trail, and I've lost both my shoos. What now for our intrepid heroes? |

Hang on! Crossed the equator? To get from the UK to Canada? This is what we get from learning to sail by watching B7. Liberator was always flying 'downhill' to save on fuel. Thinks: Gosh, what will happen if they cross the international date line? |

Love the shaking, Huggy! Joe - perhaps the fact that they crossed the equator means they're not aiming for Canada? Or maybe they're taking the scenic route. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Or maybe they're taking the scenic route. Just like in the (otherwise quite gripping) episode 141 of The Air Pirate and his Dirigible Airship, where someone takes the eastbound train from New York to Santa Fe... |
