It caused so much controversy, but McGoohan had to leave the country for a bit. He couldn't go out in the street for people grilling him about the final episode!

Glad I watched it, though.

I think there's a huge difference between the episodes before he had the break to the ones after it. Almost as if he'd run out of (sensible) ideas and was glad to get to the end.

I still rate it as one of the best tv series I have ever seen. As much as some of the eps annoy, it does challenge your thinking

I found the first part of that pretentious, but the last 10 minutes or so were oddly exhilarating. Although that he himself was number 1 was kind of unsurprising.

Well whatever you watch next week I cant join you as it is Craft Club.

Anyone else would have been either a let down, commonplace or would need further explanation.

Perhaps that is just me being bitter. A friend has taken early retirement - I wish I could afford to!

Thanks! Hope the Prisoner was an okay choice, despite the way it ends. IMO earlier episodes such as The Chimes Of Big Ben, Many Happy Returns and Checkmate are the Prisoner working so well to its format... before anything goes in the final 5 episodes or so!

I was wondering about 'Voyage to the bottom of the sea'. It's at least as silly as the Prisoner, DW, ST or any of them. And earlier. And quite scary sometimes. Presumably we can find a B7 connection somewhere...

That final episode will never give any answers. Even the No 6 = No 1 only works as a metaphor (you are your own worst enemy), it doesn't make any narrative sense.

But yeah, I love the overall series. Even quite like the final episode, as weird as it is.

And one thing I forgot to say... did anyone else spot how the front door of No 6's door opens electronically as the Butler enters it at the end... just as it would in the Village?
