The Day the Earth Caught Fire
OneSparePart
Thursday 21st March 7.45pm.
Be there or be Moloch-ed...

A smashing British SF film from 1961, starring Edward Judd, Janet Munro and one of The Prisoner's No 2s, Leo McKern.

Chock full of familiar faces especially a certain actor in his 1st screen appearance: Sir MICHAEL CAINE! Sadly, he does not blow any doors off in this film.

I hope the link works. I will double check and make sure all is OK before Thursday.

If anyone finds a better place to stream this film, please post it. I had a look on Daily Motion but couldn't see it on a quick look. But finding things on DM is problematic. You need a magic wand sometimes...

Quick question. Did the Earth catch fire before it stood still? Or did it stand still and THEN catch fire? Even more importantly, was either of these days the same as the day the music died? What a week!

I wish I didn't have other things to do on Thursday as I saw the flick a few years ago and it was pretty intense. Love all those old sci-fi gems-especially the British ones. Have you seen Devil Girl from Mars? Another 'good' old chestnut! Have fun, Kiddies.

Sorry I wont be joining you for this one. Thursdays are a bit busy. I altered things around to watch the Prisoner. But I have changed things back now!
I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

Hopefully this (re)watch is still on. If it's only me, I'll still be watching. I have had such a day, I need cheering up.

Oh no, OSP - what's happened? As your local Federation officer, it is my duty to hear all the gory details. Or failing that, watch the film with you.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

How long is the intro to this thing? Surely it can't go on as long as the Prisoner one.

Have you started already?

Of course not. 7.45 you said, and there are still a few seconds to go

Starting!

Never assume anything, as the great Servalan once said.

In case you are both desoerate to know...it was my uncle's funeral to day. I should say my favourite uncle. But he was a good egg and would like to know I'm having a good time.

I am having a good time, aren't I?....Grin

An eerie, silent start. Not only have I not seen this, but I've never even heard of it.

Sorry to hear that, OSP. We had the celebration of my b-i-l last Saturday. Sort of know how it feels.

You know how it goes. You have a good cry then reminisce about the good times.

Infodump by newspaper article.

A British film, but sort of vaguely American accents. Was that normal for this time?

I did find that the reminiscing helped when my mother died. My brother, on the other hand, went straight home after the funeral, so it doesn't work for everyone.

Bernard Braden was an American actor who worked in the UK.

So sit back and enjoy this. Tuesday can take care of itself.

True. In my uncle's case he was a man of great good humour, so the fun goes along with him, no matter what.

When did offices start having individual cubicles to stop people distracting each other?
