Well, I said I was going for a monster movie and here it is! At 7.45pm Thursday 4th April: (thanks for reminding me, OvZ) The Thing from Another World starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan et al. The film that coined a phrase! I won't give it away as it comes right at the very end of the film. And no doubt, one of our rewatchers will do it! It was remade in 1980 (I think) by the maestro of scares himself, John Carpenter. One of those rare occasions when a remake is actually great. You have a choice of where to watch it. On internet archive: https://archive.org/details/TheThingF...etSheridan Or, far more easily, on the bbc iplayer: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0078gj8 83 minutes of monster magic! Oh...a word of advice, don't rush through the studio ident bit at the start, it melds into the film's opening music. Edited by OneSparePart on 04-04-2024 18:14 Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

This isn't going to be too scary is it? Nope,as a kid more thrilling. Fun facts (a few) Couple of the actors, voice overs feature in War Of The Worlds James Arness (The Thing) was credited as first stuntman/actor to be set on fire (watch the scene carefully, no H&S, see how close the other actors are) Author same name as me and my son with 1 difference (middle name) I have a limited edition DVD with 3 version of this film : Original format etc, Digital restoration upscale, Colourised. The remake (The Thing) as onesparepart said Is very good, more horror, awesome effects, acting and score. Also homage (nod) start credits to the original but in colour. Love both equally for different reasons including nostalgia, therapy. The 2nd remake (The Thing) 2011 is the worst one of the bunch, uses CGI, weaker acting but ok to watch as is, but maybe (just to compare etc). On YouTube I've heard all audiobook/radio drama Best are 2 BBC Radio Dramas 30-1;30 minutes CBS Radio Drama and another can't remember, narration. Novella same as Blade Runner (do androids dream of electric sheep), Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly etc, Seems short story's are good for interpretation, expanding, substance As you can guess one of my favourites all time films. Enjoy with an open mind (mindful of the era) 1951 and as the novella was written in 1938! I could go on but,,,,,,, I know you need a cuppa, sit down and a paracetamol after reading this now P.s I watched this and John Carpenter on monday and at least once a month and John Carpenter version. Edited by OracVZen on 03-04-2024 10:36 I plan to live forever,or die trying.

Yes watch right from the start it's all part of the story and you won't get the start of the first remake (see my post) I plan to live forever,or die trying.

This isn't going to be too scary is it? Well...I did watch it one Friday afternoon on a bright summer's day and scared myself silly. But that was because of a door in my house creaking open (with an actual creak) at a very appropriate moment in the film... The circumstances are unlikely to be repeated! You'll be fine M'Virn. I will hold your hand and you can squeeze tight if necessary... Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

The film is well known for its sharp, overlapping dialogue and balances scares with humour very well.

Thank you both for your concern about the scariness, but I was only asking...for...for a friend, you understand. Not sure whether I'm looking forward to it or not, but I shall enjoy your company. Certainly haven't watched it before. "You're not sulking, I hope?"
