Robinson Crusoe on Mars
OneSparePart
Thursday 11th April at 7.45pm

Another literary screen adaptation. A surprising number of SF films back in the day were an adaptation of a book or short story.
WARNING: I don't think there are any women in this film. Certainly none in a major role. So that is true to the source material then. But there is a monkey, so that's ok then...

https://dai.ly/x8j0q87

No major stars appear in this film although there is a familiar face at the start of the film. No it's not Gareth Thomas.

P. S. There is an advert at the start of this film so cue it up viewers!

She will indeed!

I've seen this a few times on late late late night Telly. Try to stay awake, kids.

Cockatoo? What Cockatoo? I don't see a Cockatoo!

Well, hopefully I can stay awake as I have been falling asleep over my desk all day...still, this film should waken my ideas up. I hope it's as good as I remember. If not...too bad! Grin

If this film turns out to be good, I am getting a better version of it on disc. Got an old copy from Germany....took me 5 minutes to work out the meaning of the menu. Or I would have been watching it in German with or without subtitles...

Safer to delete them both, probably. What monkey?

You will see the monkey very soon

Didn't find an advert but stopped when I hit the title. That ship whizzing past looks a lot like the mini-system ships from Redemption. Look at the back end - that's a very Libby-like blob.

hello - i am joining you - but trying to eat dinner as well, Just finding the film to start it.

The rocket effects remind me of Forbidden Planet whose effects were done by Disney.

Adam West. Hope he's got his bat utility belt with him.

Knew I'd seen him before. All other Batmen are fakes.

He's got lots and lots of buttons to press.

Bother!

A personal bother. Or bother he's had to eject?

The ship is like a mini-Liberator, MS Virn. The thing they just missed appears to be one of the globes from the title sequence of Sapphire and Steel (Copper, perhaps?)

Loving the 'ray-gun'! Hope the firing mechanism of his flintlock works in that atmosphere!

The fireball has been used before but I can't think where.

Bother his ship fell over.

Nice effect for the time. At least he's not going to be cold on Mars.

Are these random fires just something that is indigenous to Mars?

AnneArthur
What I want to know is what happened to the monkey?

Yes. Establishing the martian environment. Hence the opening of his helmet...there is an atmosphere but it is very thin.

In this film, perhaps. Mars is actually quite a cold place. Presumably he's going to find somewhere underground where he's safer and has more oxygen - his own supply is bound to give out fairly soon. They always do.

In charge of flying the 'mother' ship, naturally.

Give him a break. No one can carry that much oxygen... Wink

That makes sense.

M1795537OCVirn
Well, somehow he has a fire going. Despite the atmosphere being mostly carbon dioxide.

His attitude reminds me of jim lovell and co on Apollo 13. Calm able to think solve the problems beford him.

What a very level-headed chap, with his talk of challenges. I would be lying on the ground sobbing at this point. Probably explains why I am not an astronaut.

Now THAT's a film worth watching! Did you see the real Jim Lovell in a cameo as the captain of the recovery ship? Brilliant!

Well that is one of the things where you have to decide if you can believe what the film tells you
