Right. Second things first: OSP has clearly secured victory in Horizon's annual 'Best Title for a Thread' competition. First things second: I vote 'The Wasp Woman'. And (remember), I speak for the nation. So that's 67 million votes for 'The Wasp Woman'. |

Lol. Don't worry, CB. I have cheerfully resigned myself to watching Wasp Woman. Oh and thanks for the compliment. What's my prize?

Lol. Don't worry, CB. I have cheerfully resigned myself to watching Wasp Woman. Oh and thanks for the compliment. What's my prize? ![]() No worries. And in my experience, cheerful resignation's a great strategy. Amazing that Roger Corman was making 'Wasp Woman' in '59 and 'The Fall of the House of Usher' only the very next year. Prize? Choice of two. EITHER M1 will send you some of the Lake District's finest weapons-grade insect repellent before Thursday OR you're allowed to watch 'Wasp Woman' with the sound turned down (though you'd miss out on the xylophone). |

insect repellent it is, then... ![]() ![]() I am sure that the hugbot does not mind standing in for a midge... Oi!!! Suggestion: Maybe the people with taste could watch The Day the Earth Stood Still while the others watch The Wasp Woman? The ensuing discussion might be interesting (a bit like having a rewatch with a certain member watching the wrong episode again). Or, you could simply watch this review. |

At such moments, I call to mind Dr Johnson’s celebrated aphorism: “When a man is tired of watching shight films for lols, he’s tired of life.” A wasp in a B movie… In and of itself, that’s a beautiful thing. |

I would very much rather watch The Day the Earth Stood Still, which I have never seen. Wasp Woman sounds trashy and sexist (also, would being pushed out of a window really kill a wasp woman? I think wasps are stronger than that! |

Well, as I'm the only one who actively wants to rewatch Wasp Woman, it’s only fair to gently withdraw my suggestion and free up space for you all to rewatch ‘Day the Earth Stood Still’. Last thing I’d want is to watch WW knowing I was the only volunteer and everyone else was a conscript! Many thanks, though, to OSP for allowing WW to taxi as far as the runway… One little bit of pushback against the (mild) anti-WW pile-on. Yes, it’s laughable nonsense, with added xylophone*. But it’s also a bit of a morality tale, subverting/skewering the misogynistic b*ll*x prevalent at the time. It’s really saying, “see where your rampant sexism gets you?”. Just my take, of course. I’ll have to do a private Roger Corman rewatch season! * Might be a vibraphone. No idea tbh. |

I think watching both at once is the best idea yet. Those who don't want to see WW meet her doom can watch Gort become disillusioned and vice versa. Note to self: robotic rc wasps - good idea? PS. I didn't say I wanted to watch TDTESS again... blimmin' do-gooders. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Shame - in any world other than the bonkers, batsh*t one we find ourselves in, a rewatch of an anti-classic like Wasp Woman would have been an absolute hoot and a half! But there's only so much swimming against the tide one man's got the energy for... My Thursday plans have been amended accordingly, but do have a good one tomorrow, everyone! |

Watched a little bit of Wasp Woman, and then skipped to the final 5 minutes. I think you've dodged a bullet in not having to watch that... ahem.... "classic" B movie... or should that be Bee Movie?

Genuinely astonished that Horizoners seem so unfamiliar with the singular breed of fun to be had from watching a bad movie, in good company, and ripping the p*ss a bit. One of life's great pleasures. But hey ho. There we go. Good job I didn't suggest The Giant Claw. |

I can't shoot because TT would really kill me. I can't shoot because M'Virn would kill me. I don't even know what signifies. And I'm not shooting a blind pile of poo.

Hence M Virn suggesting Hyperdrive - I didn't have a clue about that one, but it was a good choice. And I still have Kill The Humans in my head - although I no longer go into work humming it ![]() And hence my suggestion of The Prisoner. It gets a bit weird (especially towards the end), but it's generally thought-provoking, intriguing and has some very good episodes in its run. We've even gone completely off-genre for Fawlty Towers and Blackadder. And one day, I'll get you all watching the (IMO) sublimely brilliant Press Gang. But I don't subscribe to a "it's so bad, it's good" type thing. Normally, it's just bad! That Wasp Woman film looks genuinely awful

Beginning to think we should move this to the DUEL thread.... All I want to know is, who trained those bees/fake wasps? Ours don't seem to want to learn any tricks at all. It's not like giving treats to dogs when they do the right thing. Bees cheat - they make their own treats. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Don't you get any joy from watching a great film? I really don't mind a bit of bad acting etc but a film with NO redeeming qualities? ![]() Well, of course!! (Mind you, my all-time top ten does raise a few eyebrows.) But there’s a unique enjoyment that comes from watching a real clunker once in a while, especially with people who share your sense of humour. It’s also fun dissecting exactly why a film’s a turkey, what you’d change about it and what you’d leave intact. (WW actually has interesting things to ‘say’ regarding toxic workplace environments, the malign obsession with the superficial etc.) And, in my view, a bit of 'bad' helps sharpen your appreciation of 'good'. To put your mind at rest, I’m out of the country next week, then have other fish to fry in May; so, by the time I’m back in circulation, Wasp Woman-gate will be but a bad memory for all of us! ![]() |

Beginning to think we should move this to the DUEL thread.... I wouldn't say so. Differing views can co-exist without a 'duel'. And personally, I've nothing additional beyond what I've just noted in reply to OSP's post from yesterday. Have a great rewatch tonight! |
