The day: Thursday The date: 2nd May The time: 7.45pm The film: Fantastic Voyage! https://archive.org/details/fantastic...966_202004 Starring Stephen Boyd (nice!), Raquel Welch, Donald Pleasence, Arthur Kennedy, Edmond O'Brien and a blink-and-you'll-miss-him appearance by James Brolin. Yes! The film in which a group of male actors get paid to get to grips with Raquel Welch... It's all good, clean, fun, kids! A great score by Leonard Rosenmann who did the music for the 4th Star Trek film (no comment, TT) and Ralph Bakshi's animated Lord of the Rings. The music does not start until the voyage begins! I hope you'll join us this Thursday! Edited by OneSparePart on 01-05-2024 19:28 Silflay hraka, u embleer rah!

I've just had fish and chips, so well sorted here. Have you all voted, like good little citizens? Assuming you had anything to vote about.

OK, we're a minute late already. This is getting more like the Aussie rewatch by the week. AnneA will know exactly what I mean...

Hello everyone. Yes, I voted at 8.15 this morning, Ms Virn (not from great enthusiasm - I just happened to be out at that time). I have wine, and a pizza. |

I'm not sure electing policemen is a good idea. I mean, you might end up with someone as useless as Blake, just because he/she made a good speech or two back in the day.

That's a nice opening statement - we are back in the days of innocence and enthusiasm about space exploration. |

What is it about American actors and cleft chins? I tried looking it up and found this: Around 20-30% of the world's population has dimples, which makes them quite rare. In many cultures, dimples are a sign of beauty, youth, and luck. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Left the action for a moment to root out my copy of Azimov's novel... Film came 1st, book 2nd. I never knew it was made into a book. Yup. Azimov was asked to write it. Not one of his best, for me, but then it wasn't from his own imagination. It tended to be one of those 'and then we did this and then we did that' sort of stories. Great idea, but I think I decided I was being taught at - about the human body - rather than exploring new ideas. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Incidentally, the ideas for the story came partly from Jerome Bixby, who wrote some great SF back in the day. I think I spent a lot of my childhood reading SF, mostly in secret, since my parents were suspicious of anything even approaching SF. They didn't approve of much that was on TV, especially not ITV, hence I didn't see all the good stuff you keep telling me about. Hence my naive comments about space exploration - I assumed that they would be heading into outer space, then that it would be a dream about space in the head of the unconscious scientist. |
