WHEN?: Thursday 9th May 7.45pm WHERE?: in the comfort of your own home, with treats of your own choosing. Even prawn cocktail crisps... WAR OF THE WORLDS - the George Pal version. Pal did some cracking SF back in the day and he certainly liked H G Wells: he made The Time Machine 7 years after WOTW. In spite of the strings which can be seen holding up the Martian craft, the design and fx in this film are fantastic. As usual, the story was rewritten for the big screen. I think it stands up in its own right. You may disagree.
