Snow at Christmas - if only! It doesn't count if it comes afterwards.

Rather well done, I thought.

Even if it isn't THE house, it's a splendid place.

I remember the Coventry carol in the book - we could have done with a little more of it here, I think. I always find it a slightly spooky carol because of this.

It is.

AnneArthur

St Christopher to the rescue!

Why didn't they take the torch when they walked to the church? Had he used all the batteries?
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

AnneArthur
A very well-to-do parish in the seventeenth century - a lot of very fine gowns on those women.

OneSparePart
I didn't think God rest ye merry gentlemen was so old a carol

Apparently dates from 1650. Is that old enough for you?

I think that's in their church. But, says Wikipedia, an early version is found in a Bodleian manuscript of the 1650s.

I think it's cos it's so inextricably linked to Dickens and Victorian times.

The tune of Ding Dong Merrily is medieval, I think.

AnneArthur
That was lovely! Thanks for that.

It's going to be so bleak when he has to go back to school - for both of them.

It's a pity there aren't any more. There's a film of the second book, with Maggie Smith as the granny I think - I'm sure I've seen it on TV - but I don't think there are any more series.

There's still time for the house to burn down....

THere's a film with Patricia Routledge available. Do you want to watch it next week?

I burns down in the second book, in the eighteenth century (I think) - but it is rebuilt.

AnneArthur
I would be quite happy to - although I don't think it could be as good as that.

There aren't any in any version I've sung. Only gloooooooooorias. Also, the words of Ding Dong are Victorian, althougn the tune is older..

Yes, that's why I said the tune. The words are merely cod-medieval.

It's really about the atmosphere, and the growing friendship with the children - I liked the ending, where they are all coming and listening to the story too.

Don't want to spoil the original for you, but it might be interesting to see how they did a different version?
