1. I now realise that 'TT" stands for Teuton.

2. I saw a page from an old German cookbook a couple of days ago. ("Dr. Oetker Schulkochbuch", 1952). It showed a simple line drawing of a pig and a sheep* and identified some of the cuts of meat. The pig was, quite naturally, labelled 'schwein'. To my English-speaking mind, we get ham from said schwein, hence I was amused to see the sheep was labelled 'hammel'.

* Technically a wether, I think.

You are right, a Hammel is a wether. And as ham is Schinken in German, there is no confusion for native speakers.

In a Danish course I attended, people were amused that the Danish pronouns for "he" and "she" are "han" and "hun".
What's so amusing about that, I hear you ask.
Well, these pronouns sound and look very similar to the words "Hahn" and "Huhn", meaning "rooster" and "(female) chicken".
Oh, and a girl in Danish is a "pige", which to the English-speaking mind might conjure up the image of a Schwein...
