HHGTTG Episodes 1 and 2 Thursday, March 6 at 7.45pm

What are we watching then? The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Episodes 1 and 2
The date: Thursday, March 6th, 2025
The time: Part 1: 7.45pm UK time and Part 2: 8.20pm UK time

Pack your towel, your dressing gown, your Babelfish, and of course your trusty edition of The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, as we join Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect as we search for the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything. We'd better mention Marvin too, as otherwise he'll get depressed. He'll probably get depressed about us mentioning him too. Oh well.

There are lots of B7 connections in the various iterations of HHG, including Moloch dining at Milliways.

What don't you like about it, OSP?

Don't listen to her...she's pining for LOM and 1973.
Not sure the TV series can live up to what I imagined when reading HHGTTG but I'll give it a go. Only seen a few isolated eps so far and don't remember much of them. Thanks for posting the thread, TT. Good to have you back.

Sorry, I gathered everyone liked it - I think I misinterpreted your comment from the other thread. Is it just the TV version you dislike? The books are brilliant.

I would have thought if you did a Venn diagram of B7 fans and Hitch Hiker fans there would be quite a large intersection in the middle.

You lot! Call yourself HHGTTG Fans! I am quoting Marvin the paranoid android.

All my jokes fall flat. I might as well be Marvin, myself.

My favourite Marvin quote:

"Hey Marvin kid, how you doing?"
"Very badly I suspect"

I hope anyone who hasn't seen this before really does enjoy it. It was my introduction to Douglas Adams, and I have very warm memories of being allowed to stay up and watch it with my dad when it was first broadcast back in '81.

I'll award 10 Billion in Zeroc currency to the first person who spots the blink-and-you-probably-missed-it-at-the-time link to the (full TV canon) Doctor Who universe.

And by extension of its cross-over into the Whoniverse, the HHGTTG place in the B7 universe is also confirmed. Marvin was indeed a primitive ancestor of those lovely cuddly security robots.
I look exactly as Avon reasoned I would.

The Oolon Colluphid books? The Doctor reads another one, from outside the 'God' trilogy in, ooh - Destiny of the Daleks?

Apart from that, Vogons? The re-used props when Ford wanders around the hold, peering in the storage lockers? "Hypno-rays? Huh!" The HHG activation sound in The Sun Makers?

The best one is in The Making of HHG, where Arthur Dent has hitched a lift on Liberator.

10 Billion Zeroc** to Joe. Though Oolon did get it wrong on the first line apparently.

**Unfortunately, now worthless since the Federation annexation of Zeroc.

Ah, I knew the Oolon Colluphid reference as well, but didn't see it quickly enough. You say worthless, but Joe won't have to buy any loo roll for a year thanks to all that Xerok currency.

When does Marvin say this? Is it in one of the Dirk Maggs radio series? I definitely remember Marvin saying "It's rubbish", but not this.

That used to be my go-to-page of the copy of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe in the school library. I did have the whole book on loan to read a couple of times, but that was the "we've been told to go to the school library for 5 minutes", so quick read of a favourite chapter!

I used to know the definition of infinity off by heart!

It might have been "It's rubbish". I can see the sunset now.
It's crap sounds funnier to my faulty memory. Many apologies for mis-quoting Marvin. He wouldn't mind anyway. He's used to people not listening to him or taking him seriously. Sad

I love Peter Jones's voiceover - he did the radio series didn't he?

I was at school when this came out - the year I did my Highers, I think. I remember writing 'Don't Panic' in large friendly letters on the covers of my files.
