CRUD CLUB: AFTER-EIGHTH REWATCH Weds 20th August, 19.45 BST
Cygnus Bazza
LINKS FOR WEDNESDAY:

- Original black & white version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdhtk...dhtkODG28w
- Colourised version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYdJz...amp;t=397s

Apparently there's a short sound glitch on the colourised version about half an hour in. Wouldn't want this to affect your enjoyment of this feature, but entirely up to you (of course) which version you plump for.

(We’ll CRUD it this time, then WET the GECKO again next time.)

Get the posh-ish chocolates out. And those Waitrose cheese straws that have been in the cupboard since Christmas. 2016. You’ll be needing an energy boost by the time you’ve grappled mano a mano with the most comically memorable monster in the hallowed halls of sh*t cinema…

LET’S DO THIS!

When: Weds 20th August, 19.45 BST. Come as you are. Within reason. (We’re not afraid to judge you if we have to.)

What Are We Watching: THE GIANT CLAW (1957). Tbh, the claw’s the least of our problems. Wait till you cop a look at the creature attached to it…

Why Are We Watching It: Loads of reasons. None of them good.

How: By clicking on the link. NOT NOW FFS! You’ll ruin EVERYTHING! Honestly… You need to get a grip. (Which is ironic.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYdJz...amp;t=393s

What Can I Expect From This Rewatch? The usual:
Someone spots something in the sky...
Something rocks up from an antimatter galaxy... (Not that it really antimatters)
The US military gets stretched to breaking-point...
There’s panic in the streets of New York, New York, New York...
Paula and Brad impressively avoid giving the plot away...
M1 makes a (sensible) point which everyone else (sensibly) ignores...
OSP gives CB a WHOLLY UNWARRANTED verbal BATTERING...
Taiellin wonders how his life led him to this point...

Handy Fact: Originally released as a double feature with ‘The Night the World Exploded’. If they’d showed that one first, it would've saved the audience the trouble of sitting through this one.

The Giant Claw deserves a place in the Crud Club. Anxiously waiting to do this one.

Just a reminder that chocolate selection will be absolutely crucial to the success of tomorrow's after-eighth gathering of the Crud Club clan. Choose wisely. You'll be required to explain your decision. Zero tolerance for defective confectionery.

Read that the producers hired the lowest bidder to do the SFX, said bidder having padded their resume with nonexistent projects. The producers were horrified when they saw 'the Giant Claw' (in a bad way) but didn't have the money for a redo.

Chocolate getting us through this? Nah... a few shots of a good whisky should do the trick.

Shouldn't it be "The Giant Claws?" or does it only have one arm or leg????

This has always troubled me. Maybe they were hoping we wouldn't look at the rest of it.

But I'll pass on the Spring Surprise. By which I mean I'll pass it on to you.

No spoilers but let's just say I've been getting in the mood by watching this classic clip:

I've always wondered if these Anglo American (or in this case, Danish?) 'giant critter' movies of the late 50's were in any way inspired by the Japanese Kaiju movies of a few years earlier.

Hello, Claw-watchers. Forced myself away from reading my new book - almost bound to become a classic. About things that didn't happen (but nearly did). Fascinating. One wonders what sort of mind could come up with a premise like that. Anyway, back to the Claw: my choice is some Ritter Dark Chocolate With Hazelnut (yes, hazelnuts again). Class.

Don't know if my fellow Brits have realised it, but it's Autumn. Sunset is at 8.30pm already. We've lost two hours from those long summer evenings already. And here we are wasting what's left sitting indoors watching Crud. But at least it means the hens go to bed at a reasonable time, and we no longer have to stay up till gone 10pm to close their door for them against marauding foxes, badgers etc.

Anyway. almost time to start. Wonder if anyone else is here yet?

Seems reasonable, as Richard Widmark said in another film. Film makers love a good idea, especially someone else's.

Can't recall who said it, Zero Mostel? Groucho Marx?

All you need to get ahead in Hollywood is an original idea. Mind you, it doesn't have to be YOUR original idea.
