CRUD CLUB: NON-NINJA NINTH REWATCH Weds 19th November, 19.45 GMT
Cygnus Bazza
Time for Le Club de Crud* to turn its considerable/commendable attention to the plight of endangered species as rare as posh in the Potteries, as the old saying** goes.

LET’S DO THIS!

When? Weds 19th Nov., 19.45 GMT. Yes, the clocks would have gone back. In the Potteries, of course, they already started off quite a long way back so you can only imagine what sort of savage mire they’ll find themselves in this time round.

What Are We Watching? SON OF KONG (1933). Presumably confirmed by paternity test.

Why ON EARTH Are We Watching It? Because if we didn’t, who else would? Actually, there’s a bloke in Chiswick…

How? By clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmFIe...mp;t=1447s

What Can We Expect? A big ape. And a lot of dinosaurs - personally, I'm hoping for a Mr T Rex, possibly with a fear of flying pterodactyls. Wikipedia says the scriptwriter set out to write a funny film. Well, WE'LL be the judge of THAT!!! I mean, WE'RE the people who arrive fresh from turning the mighty ‘METROPOLIS’ into a slapstick comedy!!!!!!!!!!!

Key Questions:

Will Paula be on Jodhpur Watch?
Will Brad detect tell-tale traces of ‘Dies Irae’ in the soundtrack?
Will OSP order a new settee to hide behind?
Will Taiellin put in a bid for OSP's old settee so she can hide behind it?
Will CB just shut the eff up for five minutes?

Did You Know? The execrable ‘King Kong Song’ is OSP’s favourite ABBA track?!! I know!!! I was slightly surprised too! Still. Each to their own. Actually, I’m just hearing it’s now been nudged into second place by ‘Bang-A-Boomerang’. Frankly, what you choose to do with your boomerang in the privacy of your own home is entirely a matter for you, your conscience and the neighbours you invite round to share the experience.

* High time we tried to attract a slightly higher-class clientele than….well, than you and me, basically...

** About six minutes old, to be precise.

Paula
And may the gods help us that the ginger mercenary NEVER wears jodhpurs! Other than that, you had me laughing out loud already and can't wait for the film to start! Cheers.

Will Brad detect tell-tale traces of ‘Dies Irae’ in the soundtrack?

For those who didn't get their degree in Music Education, and take Music History twice (because they failed it the first time) Dies Irae (Dee-es E-Ray) is Latin for Day of Wrath, a Gregoran Chant dating back to the 13th century. The motiff is pops up surprisingly frequently in modern music, quoted extensively in Berlioz' Symphony Fantastique, and quoted in whole or in part in movie soundtracks like Star Wars A New Hope (part of the Death Star theme), The Shining, The Lion King, and even Citizen Kane. It is used to musically symbolize death or tragedy.

I'm willing to bet that Councilor Chesku wore jodhpurs, and that's why Anna shot him....

That's all excellent. Seems we're already bubbling up into a state of semi-hysteria at the prospect of a spot of vicarious gorilla-grappling. And, for me, a key takeaway is that I've been giving Hector B WAY too much credit over the years.

Nice to see all that Music education finally came in useful, Brad.

I hope there will be no cruelty to gorillas in this film, Cretinous B...
a boomerang could be whizzing your way soon, if so.

That's really interesting and also makes a lot of sense. Even if we aren't as knowledgeable on classical works, the music quoted in soundtracks does its job of making us feel grim/sad/wary etc. They knew how to write back in the day. Good to know the music operates.

I can't be with you for this, but I wish you luck. Meanwhile, if you haven't already watched it, LAVALANTULA might be just the thing for a quiet night in.

(And wonder of wonders, there's a sequel).

PS. I once sang Dies Irae, but the Verdi one, rather than the Gregorian,
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

Saw this ages ago. One question I want answered: Is there a Queen Kong, or was this an early experiment by The Clone Masters gone horribly wrong?

Really do mind if I sit this one out but tied up with other stuff tonight. Won’t be able to come out to play this time round.

I can't remember! if I've seen this film. It's the sort of film I would have watched having seen King Kong. We'll see if it all comes flooding back.

I'm thinking the same thing. I can't remember if I've seen this before or not. I keep mixing it up with Mighty Joe Young.

Mighty Joe Young can in no way be considered a Krud Film.

Rule One: Never remind the viewers of the Classic Film you are ripping off in the middle of your Krud Film.

I thought that but then if we watched it, I thought it might set a precedent and we could watch some B movies that were actually good.

King Kong is clearly King, but if Son of's mother is a commoner, he's still illegitimate re the royal line. (re Henry VIII, only son, born not to a queen)..... Even we Americans know this... Thanks to The Six Wives Of....

I do not like Robert Armstrong as an actor. He is reprising his role here and he's just as bad of actor as in the first film.
