OK, I'm not wildly impressed, TBH. TV makes everything happen at once... and loudly. But you knew I was going to prefer the books, didn't you? The casting is good, and it does hang together nicely, though. See you next time anyway. BUT Peter Jones as a book and those wonderful graphics (way ahead of their time) and they got Marvin spot on - no attempt to make him look wizzy. He's perfect as he is! Vote Og.

Just went off to check before I said another incorrect thing...the man who walked naked into the sea in ep 2 was douglas adams himself. I didn't like to say at the time. Once bitten, twice shy.

At least nobody's going to be going on about how much better this is blu-ray. There was a Blu-ray release a couple of years back, but they didn't do such a good job of it. And they couldn't put the improved footage back into the episodes... I love the fact they attempted to realise this on a bog-standard BBC budget! They didn't have the money to do both HHG and the Goodies, which is one of the reasons the Goodies ended up defecting to LWT. Unfortunately, LWT couldn't do what the Beeb could do and it looks dismal despite some good scripts. The graphics here are pretty good. I think someone did a crash course in mastering the BBC Micro! It's all hand-drawn and photographed frame by frame with a rostrum camera. Imagine doing that with all that text typing out on screen! The same guys did the graphics in the Max Headroom telemovie, and the heads-up overlay on the B7 S4 titles. Kevin Jon Davies, who did the Making of B7 documentaries (that didn't get onto the DVDs) was a big part of it. How come Betelgeuse is still called Betelgeuse to all the other alien races? Because we're hearing it translated into English. And who was Barnard? An American astronomer. Why can't someone invent the Babelfish? Me being crap at languages would no longer matter! One of them is a cartoon of Douglas Adams. They use the same graphic in the sequence explaining dolphin intelligence and also (with added hair) as the female 'worst poet in the universe'. David Tennant's mother in law Peter Davison also pops up later on. I love HHGTTG in book, radio or TV form. Only the movie failed! The LP version is pretty good too, plus we got the Disaster Area single out of it - Douglas Adams playing with Glen Matlock from the Sex Pistols and Rusty Egan.
