So was he number 1 then? Didn't you see? Who was behind the monkey mask. Some sort of metaphor about being your own worst enemy. Or self-censorship? I thought it was him behind the monkey mask, but couldn't be sure. |

OK, we normally rush away, but what did everyone make of that?

I think I would have preferred a little bit more realism. And I like a bit of lunacy.

After the first few episodes, it started being too predictable for me. This is what comes of giving one man the power to create something from the depths of his subconscious!

This is the hardest one of all to mark but... Arrival 9 The Chimes Of Big Ben 10 A. B. and C. 7 Free For All 8 The Schizoid Man 9 The General 7 Many Happy Returns 10 Dence Of The Dead 5 Checkmate 10 Hammer Into Anvil 9 It's Your Funeral 8 A Change Of Mind 7 Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling 4 Living In Harmony 3 The Girl Who Was Death 10 Once Upon A Time 6 Fall Out 7 I like bits of it, including the No 1 reveal (had to be him really, didn't it?), but there's other bits that could be so much better. It caused so much controversy, but McGoohan had to leave the country for a bit. He couldn't go out in the street for people grilling him about the final episode! Vote Og.

I think there's a huge difference between the episodes before he had the break to the ones after it. Almost as if he'd run out of (sensible) ideas and was glad to get to the end. Glad I watched it, though. There are some cracking episodes... goes a bit off the rails at the end. Although I will always love The Girl Who Was Death... that was almost turned into a 90-minute special. Vote Og.

I still rate it as one of the best tv series I have ever seen. As much as some of the eps annoy, it does challenge your thinking

I found the first part of that pretentious, but the last 10 minutes or so were oddly exhilarating. Although that he himself was number 1 was kind of unsurprising. |

It could of course be a metaphor for retirement . . . Perhaps that is just me being bitter. A friend has taken early retirement - I wish I could afford to! |

I don't think it helped when George Markstein departed and wasn't around to write/script edit. He was the one who was a proper writer... and always in the scene with McGoohan at the start of each episode when No 6 resigns! Vote Og.

Hope the Prisoner was an okay choice, despite the way it ends. IMO earlier episodes such as The Chimes Of Big Ben, Many Happy Returns and Checkmate are the Prisoner working so well to its format... before anything goes in the final 5 episodes or so! Vote Og.
